Excellent accommodation and very friendly hosts. We were made to feel really welcome by Roy and Terri, who provided information about the area not available in the guide books. Everything you could wish for at breakfast including local fruit and specialist teas all served in the beautiful breakfast lounge. Located in the centre of Sarlat and very convenient for restaurants and shops. Definitely recommended!!

My wife and I stayed here for four nights towards the end of August. The guest house is charming - a tastefully renovated medieval house right in the heart of Sarlat. Our room was a bit small, so speading out a large open case took up much of the floor space (At least one other of the rooms is larger)but was comfortable, clean and had a characterful bare stone wall. There's a beautiful, sunny large lounge/dayroom with fire
place that the hosts let guests use, though as the weather was hot we made use of the little courtyard outside. The hosts, the very hospitable (and knowledgeable of the local area) Terri and Roy joined the guests most evenings here for a glass of wine. The optional breakfast is of a high standard - fresh breads and pastries from the local boulongerie; the price of 8 Euros fair when compared to the local going rate.
Sarlat itself is a beautiful old town - the medieval heart of it is a winding maze of narrow mainly vehicle free streets. It has numerous restaurants, though most do very similar menus - a variation on the duck/foi gras theme common to this area of France. There was quite a lot going on in the town: market days twice a week and there were various street theatre acts in the evenings while we were there in late August. It's fair to say that the French national holiday late July/August is not the best time to visit Sarlat as it gets very crowded (foot traffic more than cars). On market days it's difficult to squeeze through the crowds. The surrounding area is stunning and Terri and Roy give good advice on where to go. If you are staying in Sarlat, La Lanterne is ideally located and you will be well looked after by Terri and Roy.

We have just returned from spending a week in Sarlat at La Lanterne - what a treat. We couldn't have asked for more charming hosts and their warmth and hospitality made our holiday just that little bit more special. They have a beautiful home and we thoroughly enjoyed Roy's delicious breakfasts in the morning in the pretty flowered courtyard. We hope very much to visit Terri, Roy and Margaret for another relaxing break in the not too distant future and would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely B & B to our friends and family. Their two gorgeous little dogs, Frodo and Fibi, add to the enjoyment and are just as welcoming and very entertaining!!

An ancient and lovely picture book house in a dreamy medieval market town with service, food and hospitality that is the best I have ever experienced in a B and B. La Lanterne in Sarlat shows what can be achieved with the right attitude and a true understanding of what visitors are really looking for.

Terri and Roy ensured we had an amazing time, not only by providing us with wonderful accomodation, but also giving us tips on the best way to use our time in Sarlat. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone looking at staying in Sarlat, a beautiful house in an amazing location.

If you are considering staying in a centrally located but peaceful fifteenth century french merchant's town house you could do no better than La Lanterne. It calls itself a B and B but at a standard and quality far above what you could expect in the UK.With sublime weather, a truly international food market, fine restaurants and an ambiance to die for, travellers of a certain age, minus kids will fall in love all over again in this location. An elegant continental breakfast featuring huge croissants, oven fresh french breads, local cheeses,Limousin butter and a range of yoghurts and cereals together with local strawberries, melons and berries,is tastefully presented on china and served in one of the only outdoor terraces in this jewel of a medieval market town.Fresh coffee and a choice of teas and juices will help you start the day perfectly. The hosts,Terri and Roy Bowen know every inch of the town, where to eat, where to park, where to do your laundry and they know the locals you may need including the doctor, the dentist, even the local gendarmerie.Best of all this couple are perfect hosts, tea, coffee or wine is always produced when you want it and Roy is a walking local guide book and historian with a wealth of stories, suitably larded in the French manner guaranteed to entertain. On a practical note the family do all the housekeeping themselves and the crisp white bed linen is all laundered and ironed by hand by Terri herself. These people put their heart and soul into their enterperise and it shows.Visitors are drawn primarily from the 'Yanks' the ' Aussies' and 'Kiwis' but the Uk is fast getting to know why La Lanterne is so popular. If you want to know more then visit www.sarlat.biz.It really is the 'Biz'!

We had a great four night stay at this most charming B&B. It has a great location, comfortable rooms and a pretty little courtyard where we enjoyed a few glasses of wine in the evenings chatting with our hosts and other guests. We picked up some great tips from fellow guests at breakfast which helped us avoid some of the normal ptifalls of travelling. Roy and Terri were a mine of info regarding the area and nothing was too much bother. Terri even did our laundry for us which on a six week trip was a great help. This was a special trip for our 25th wedding anniversary and Roy and Terri pulled out all the stops, we received a card at the breakfast table and a complimentary bottle of champagne to help our celebrations. (The breakfasts by the way were excellent, Roy's wonderfully prepared fresh fruit every morning is a picture in itself). Would I recommend this B&B - unreservedley YES!!! These guys' really enjoy looking after you and they made sure we got the best from out time here. Wherever we go next it will have someway to go to beat this experience.
