My wife and I stayed at La Lanterne for two nights during our visit to Sarlat and it was wonderful. Perfect location. Very short walk to the market and excellent restaurants. Roy and Terri were very gracious hosts, and provided excellent recommendations. I can not imagine a better experience. Stuart (Birmingham, Alabama).

Believe it or not, I actually stayed here when it was a house for rent. And I have fond memories of it. I had an upstairs bedroom which I presume is now closed off for the owners and liked it. It is a very central location, with the main square and a small snack place at the bottom of the hill. We got a great TV in the parlor, where we watched BBC.Sarlat is a great town, but my only problem was it was sometimes noisy. Also, you have to walk up a hill from the square to get here. But it's still great. This is THE place to stay in Sarlat! If you can come only once, stay here!

Although we love our driving holidays when we get to a destination it's really nice not to get into the car for a while. So after researching a number of places to stay which pertained to be in Sarlat and discovering in reality they were at least fifteen
minutes drive away, we discovered La Lanterne which is not only in Sarlat but it's right in the centre of this beautiful Medieval town.
This B&B has location, location, location. We arrived on a Saturday which coincided with the market which made parking difficult but with Roy & Terri's help we found a parking space and for the rest of our stay there was no problem.

The room we stayed in was the La Lanterne room, which was twin bedded - not our first choice but the only one left (and we booked months in advance of our holiday). However we were delighted with the themed room and especially the view out of our window of the Lanterne des Morts and the courtyard.

Roy and Terri are fantastic hosts and really made us feel welcome in their home. One of the highlights of our visit was breakfast, where we learnt more about the area over a croissant than we would ever learn from a guide book.

There are so many places to see in and around Sarlat we shall
certainly return to La Lanterne in the future.

If you are thinking of visiting Sarlat then La Lanterne must be the best Bed & Breakfast you could choose. Roy & Terri are brilliant hosts, friendly, welcoming with lots of knowledge about Sarlat and surrounding area's. We chose the Courtyard suite which had tea and coffee making facilities in a small downstairs room with our bedroom upstairs. Very clean and comfortable. Breakfast is taken in the main house where you will meet the other guests over croissants, breads, cereal, fresh fruit and yogurt. Tea or coffee. Roy makes a daily trip for fresh produce. Very highly recommended.
Sarlat is a very beautiful, unspoilt small medieval town, lots of restaurants and shops.

A beautiful spot in a beautiful town.

The B&B itself is lovely, the facilities are very modern, and the atmosphere is relaxed. The hosts Roy and Terri were friendly and helpful from the moment we sent our first email enquiry - you could not ask for better hosts.

They recommended excellent restaurants, shops, sights, and when I asked where the best place to buy a bottle of Champagne was.. Roy grabbed his umbrella and walked me down to the shop and introduced me to the owner personally (it was a bargain too).

Would definitely go back.

My girlfriend and I have just returned from a relaxing week in the picturesque town of Sarlat. It was our first visit to this part of France and apart from the town being one of the most beautiful I have seen, the accommodation just blew us away, exactly how you would imagine a historic building should be, full of character and charm especially with the exposed rafters and beams.

When we arrived we were welcomed by Terri and Roy (the owners) with a few drinks in the courtyard, you couldn't wish to meet a more friendly and helpful couple. Over the entire week they made it feel like we'd never left home and their local knowledge was a great help over the week.

The suite we stayed in was the self catering De Beaumont Suite, which had stunning views, loads of room and so peaceful. Part of the fun was shopping for breakfast in the market square which made us feel like 'locals' after a couple of days. We'll definitely be going back later this year.

Even my initial reluctance to stay in the middle of Sarlat because I had read that parking could be an issue were squashed as we had no trouble during our stay.

Really recommend you try this place as its awesome.

There is very little not to like about this B&B and its British owners, Terri and Roy, who are most accomodating to their guests. First of all, the centuries old 3 room property is located in the middle of the old town and only a few minutes walk from the market. The location cannot be beat for this city. The room, albeit quite small, was spotlessly clean and its one window faced some lovely flowers in bloom. The rate was 85 euros per night without breakfast. Car parking is free on the street about 80 meters away if you are lucky to find a spot, but only 3 euros a night in the public outdoor parking area about 7-10 minute walk from the property. A minor suggestion would be for another reading lamp in the room for evening readers such as myself. There really isn't room for a chair in the room for one to sit and read and it would have been nice to have a small lounge to stretch out at the end of the day and relax. In all, we would stay here again if visiting Sarlat in the future.
