We thoroughly enjoyed our five nights in Sarlat. The warm welcome at La Lanterne made us feel at home right away, and the warmth of our hosts continued through the visit. The old stone building has been tastefully updated; our room was comfortable and modern, yet kept some of the architectural touches of the original construction. The courtyard offered a cozy and cheerful setting for evening drinks with the other guests. Teri and Roy are very well-informed about the town and surroundings. We benefited greatly from their advice about which restaurants were favored by the locals and could be counted on for a good meal. The house is near the edge of the old city and therefore close to parking. At the same time, it is only two or three minutes from the main square. A delight!

I reviewed La Lanterne on here in 2009 purely on the basis of having met Terri and Roy and been won over by their character and warmth even though we stayed elsewhere. On our revisit to Sarlat last week there was only one place we could possibly stay and we were not disappointed.
I fully endorse all the positives in other reviews concerning the hosts fabulous attention to detail, helpfulness and friendliness and I loved the courtyard which provided an early evening chance to meet fellow guests from all over the world if that was your fancy.
We knew all that from our previous experience but we hadn't known was just how atmospheric this wonderful old building really is.
We stayed in the Loft Suite which was very spacious and provided some flexibility with a sitting room and small kitchenette. It was also incredibly peaceful up there and when Sarlat was at its busiest on Market day we really were "far from the madding crowd" up there.
Don't delay booking this place if you have any intention of visiting Sarlat

Absolutely perfect in every way! We stayed in the Courtyard Suite for six nights while we explored Sarlat and the surrounding area. It was lovely to come back to such a beautiful room after exploring the most picturesque region of France that we have ever visited. The Breakfast provided was fantastic and our hosts could not have been more helpful. We highly recommend a visit to Sarlat and La Lanterne.

Our 5 night stay at Terri and Roy's place was indeed like staying with friends. From the friendly, warm welcome on arrival to the hug goodbye our stay was memorable. The room was beautiful, clean and spacious. The lounge where breakfast was served was out of a style mag. Our hosts were friendly, accommodating and very helpful. A great feature was the welcome drink in the courtyard and during our stay we made it a daily ritual with the other guests after a day out. Terri and/or Roy were happy to join us all and listen to our stories and offer their local knowledge. The only negative is I couldn't take Frodo and Fibi home with me! (their two sweet little dogs) We will definitely revisit. Thanks, Glenda and Wayne

We were never keen on B & B's until we spent 5 perfect days at La Lanterne.

Our room was lovely. Spacious & comfortable. Good to come home to after a day sightseeing & before enjoying a glass of wine in the pretty courtyard whilst deciding where to have dinner. Difficult as there are so many good restaurants within a short stroll of the hotel.

We chose to have breakfast (optional) and were so glad we did - delicious.

Teri and Roy are amazing hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Their advice and information hepled us make the most of our far too short stay.

We can't wait to go back. Mick & Linda

We just got back from a great trip to France. We stayed at La Lanterne for 4 days and can't say enough about how wonderful it was. It was a perfect location in old Sarlat just to walk out and see all kinds of things and the accommodation was tops in all respects. Absolutely spotless, had everything we needed and all in perfect working order. I cant' say enough about our hosts. Terri and Roy are most gracious hosts and we felt right at home. They went above and beyond in what we could have ever expected making our stay with them and seeing the area much more special. They did things for us all on their own accord that we never asked for or even mentioned that made our experience on this trip something we won't ever forget. Thanks so much Terri and Roy!

I could go on with all kinds of details of how fine it was but will end by saying that I would recommend La Lanterne to anyone without any reservations whatsoever.

We stayed for 3 nights whilst exploring the Dordogne and La Lanterne was a fantastic place to stay. Based only minutes fron the center, local resturants and cafe's are a short walk away. The shaded courtyard at the hotel was a welcome relief at the end of a long hot day of sightseeing and you can sit and enjoy a drink .( for only 1 euro !! ) The bedrooms are individually styled, clean and pretty. The dining room feels homely and cosy. Breakfast was delicious, fresh and plentiful. Thankyou to Richard for your running routes and making us feel so welcome at La Lanterne. Claire & John
