My friends and I (6 adults and 1 infant) stayed at the Hotel La Verperie for one night whilst we were travelling through France. I would consider this hotel more of a B&B.
When we arrived, we had to drive the van past a big cemetary and then proceeded up a little hill. The hotel sits on top of the hill with a car park and an outdoor swimming pool. As we were in Sarlat, we wanted to sample the foods in the market so opted out of the breakfast supplied by the hotel which was €7.80 per person. I had pre-arranged this prior to arriving at the hotel but when I got to the hotel, the receptionist was very unhelpful and said it was hotel policy to either stay B&B or half board. I showed him all the paperwork (thank god for print outs and email confirmations) and after phoning the lady who told me it was ok to cancel breakfast, he told me it was ok as the lady would be making up the difference in our bills!
Anyway, once we received out keys, we had to drag our luggage up 3 floors via a narrow staircase - no lifts in this place! Our rooms were on the top floor. There were 4 rooms altogether on the top floor and each of our 3 rooms were all differently laid out - I presume due to the angling of the roof.
If you are ordering an extra bed for a child, do not get the child's cot as the hotel staff do not know how to set it up and expect you to do it yourselves - the man just left it to us after struggling for 5 mins. Needless to say we didn't pay for the cot nor did we set up it in the end.
We had arrived late to the hotel - around 8pm so we did not sample the dinner in the hotel (although the hotel's restaurant was full when we arrived) but proceeded to walk into town. We drove the van back down the hill and parked in a free outdoor car park as advised by the receptionist and then walked the rest of the way into town which takes about 5 mins going downhill - but note, you cannot take a buggy up and down this walking route due to the ruined roads.
I would mention that the hotel rooms are not sound proof at all! My friend's child decided to run in and out of our respective rooms at 12am (when we got back from dinner) and I was met with a very dishevelled man from the bedroom below our room, who persisted to shout at me in French for about 2 mins. Not that he didn't have every right to, but after that we each retired to our respective rooms and tip-toed in our every step!
As we only stayed for one night and was using the place just to sleep, it was worth the amount we paid, however, if my vacation had been longer and I was to spend a longer amount of time in the room, then I don't think I would choose this hotel again.
