During our recent visit to the Dordogne, Sarlat became a firm favourite. It has a wonderfully preserved medieval centre, which is traffic free and quite charming. Lovely central square, which has bars and restaurants where you can while a way an idle hour sipping something chilled and white, chat and people watch to your hearts' content. The world just slows right down. There are some excellent shops and a large church, which has been converted into a wonderful covered market full of excellent produce, where I would happily shop every week if I could.
It's not to be missed on any visit to the region - a real gem.
