Villa des Consuls has justly earned it's place as THE hotel to stay in Sarlat. I have had the pleasure of staying here for 13 nights...2 in Colbert and 11 in Mirabeau. Colbert is quite lovely, as other posters have written, but Mirabeau is simply fantastic! I feel like royalty, with the large sitting area, the 15+ foot ceilings, a small faux fireplace and the view, over a balcony, to the Rue de La Republique. The hotel could not have a better location for exploring the city and, of course, Sarlat is central to exploring this region of the Dordogne. The owner, David, has done a superb job with renovating this centuries old building and has kept it true to the period, but with all the modern amenities you could want. He also is incredibly gracious and has answered my innumerable questions with a smile!
Much has been written on Sarlat as a place to visit, but suffice it to say that the Saturday Market is not to be missed. But, personally, I like the ambling back alleys and the serpentine streets where you will find many interesting art galleries and other small shops tucked away in little corners and you can imagine how it might have been in centuries past.
If you intend on visiting this region, you will be immensely pleased with Villa Des Consuls. Everything has been just perfect!More
