“Fantastic apartment in beautiful Sarlat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2011

We stayed for 2 nights with friends in the Medici unit with a Queen size bed in the bedroom and 2 twin beds in the salon. We had a balcony on the front overlooking the main street in sarlat and a patio in the quiet back courtyard. Although we were overlooking the main street the rooms were exceptionally quiet. It was the perfect location to wander about Sarlat. The market on Wednesday was wonderful. Parking can be tricky but we managed to find parking in the free lot just above the town. The kitchen was very well equipped for at least 6 persons. Would definitely reccommend this place for a few days or more.

We stayed in Sarlat for 4 nights and were very pleased with the apartment we had. 2 twin beds, a lot of open space which is rare in Europe and kitchen amenities. Very clean. Perfect location in the center of the medieval city. Our window opened up on the main street running trough town. No noise from the street either. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Finding the hotel was a bit tricky. There are no streets to drive down, only the one circling the town and the one going through it. There is a sign with the hotel name in the area of the hotel. We pulled over and parked then walked in the area and found the hotel, Very close. They came up to get our luggage and after checking in we drove to the paid parking area. This is about a 5 minute drive/10-15 minute walk but worth it. Not much parking otherwise except for a free parking area about the same distance but be careful if you are there Saturday for the market, you'd never find a spot!

Saturday market was fantastic! Lots of things to see in the area with a car. Definitely wirth staying at this hotel and this town! Would go again and would recommend to all..

Room Tip: Check out there website as they show each of the rooms. There are only about 10 as this was a house...

We stayed for four nights in early September 2011 in the Richelieu apartment. The apartment had a large kitchen area, with TV and sitting area (dinner table and lounge chair). There was also a good size bathroom a large double bedroom. The apartment was very clean. The water pressure and hot water in our shower was wonderful. There is soap provided but no other toiletries, which is fine, because it is an apartment after all, not a hotel. The most wonderful part of the Richelieu apartment is the private deck. It was memorable to sit here at the end of a days touring and drink our bottle of Bordeaux wine and have some snacks. So relaxing. The bedroom looked out onto one of the main streets of Sarlat. We were not bothered by traffic noise, just a brass band playing very late one Friday night (12.30pm). However, this is nothing that the apartment management can control. It is great to look out and get a birds eye view perspective of the Sarlat market from the front windows during market days. Sarlat is well touristed and busy but we found it quite laid back and not too busy in September. We paid 9 Euro per day for the secure garage which is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. We are very glad we did this because it would have been a pain to try to find parking at the end of each day. I personally found the bed to be a little uncomfortable but my husband, did not, so I guess it is a personal thing. I think this is the most beautiful place to stay in Sarlat because it is right in the Old Town. There are other places on the outskirts or outside the old town, but that area is not as nice as the Old Town. We found the owner David to be very helpful and he speaks excellent English, if the language issue worries you. It is convenient to use the laundry that is available as well. You can buy soap powder from reception. We found Villa des Consuls to be an excellently priced option and a great base for exploring Font de Guame and Lascoux II and the other attractions of the area. There are two small convenience stores within walking distances of the apartments to get any food (and wine) supplies that you need.

Room Tip: Email David before you arrive to get a map of the free parking areas. If you call when you arrive, h...

We stayed in the Fénelon and it was perfect. Plenty enough room for two people to relax comfortably, which is much nicer than a cramped hotel room. The english-speaking staff are top notch. They serve you an ample breakfast each day, and there are on-site washers and dryers. The midieval town and all the excellent eateries and shops within it are easily reachable on foot. The staff are also happy to help you prepare itineraries for all of the area's sites.

One such site closeby (car or bus ~15km) is the Faunt de Gaume in Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil, an absolutely amazing prehistoric cave with polychrome paintings and engravings -- it's one of the last caves where you can view the actual original works. The staff at La Villa des Consuls will be happy to make a (required) reservation for you -- I recommend making reservations at least a month ahead (or more during summer visits).

Sarlat is a beautiful & wonderful medieval city & the Villa Des Consuls is located right in the middle of this charming town: perfect location. Stayed several nights in the beautiful & super big Medicis apartment, with balcony overlooking main street & market! Also had another much quieter, private patio, with table & chairs facing interior courtyard. Rooms aren't fancy but are nicely furnished, spotlessly clean with comfortable sofa & beds. Very convenient washer & dryer just off lobby. Reception service was helpful & very nice. This is a special hotel that I really enjoyed; would definitely return & highly recommend.

Stayed for several nights in the Montaigne apartment which faces the main shopping street. To be clear, and despite some comments to come, the hotel and apartment are wonderful and well-priced. Montaigne has two double-bed rooms with a bath/shower off one room and a toilet next to the other. You walk from the toilet, through the kitchen and into 2nd bedroom to get to the washbasin which is a small niggle. Kitchen is well enough equipped. There's a small laundry for guest use adjoining the main reception area. No parking at the hotel: you park nearby (call ahead for a map) and the helpful staff pick up your luggage in a trolley and take it to the hotel for you. Sarlat is very pretty but very touristy and crowded, with a great market.

If you are here in July/August, rent the garage. Only a 5' walk, for 9 euros per night on your bill it's a safe, secure and convenient bargain compared to finding a parking space.

Any faults to staying here are not directly a problem of the hotel, just a feature of its location. What is so great about being near the high street in the core hours of the day must be balanced by the racket of the chiller units on the lorries parked directly underneath the room terrace as they stock the shops between 0700-1000. In the evening you are entertained by the street musicians: the pitch outside the Villa is taken by a couple playing mandolin and pan pipes. Great on the first evening. Amusing on the 2nd when you realise they play the same tunes in a different order. By the third you dread the inevitable arrival of El Condor Pasa. Never have I been so glad of a rainstorm on holiday keeping them at home on our final night. And finally, again nothing the hotel can do much about, the shrubbery outside our terrace on the outside walkway was used by one drunk as a urinal. But all that aside, this is well worth discovering.

The Villa des Consuls is hidden amongst the medieval passageways of Sarlat and only accessable by foot. Free parking is available a short walk away on the edge of town, and for those with heavy bags a motorised trolley is provided to help as reqd.

The concierge was most helpful and provided a marked map of recommended restaurants, although booking earlier in the day could have been advised. The room was 'gleaming', with a wonderful view, although the windows were set quite high up. The proximity of the town centre was a concern as regards noise, but come 2300 all was quiet, so much so we decided to sleep with the windows open and AC off...mistake...the street cleaners come out early!

The B&B is centrally located and about 40m from the main street, and 80m from the main square which was bustling with life and entertainment. What an excellent time we had there supping an ale or two and taking it all in.

Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: They are all great I believe
