“We had a great time”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

We booked this place quite late on (our first choice was full). I found the online booking a bit unclear but the staff were very helpful and responded asap to all my queries.

Taking a caravan to France is not easy and the route to the site once off the motorway is not particularly helpful (the site recommend you to drive through the main town of Sarlat (not easy on market day!!) so plan your route carefully if towing.

The welcome at reception was great and unfussy. We were shown straight to our pitch (close to all the amenities) with water and electric connections very close. The only downside was that a cow field adjoins the site and the cows come up to your pitch (by the fence). The cows are fine but the smell is not great. The shower blocks were really good but the toilet blocks could be better (with separate blocks for male/female!).

The pool is the big draw here but even though it is a good size, it does get very busy and the chance of having a good swim is pretty hard (even if you get there first thing, there is water aerobics so there is never a chance to get the pool to yourselves and after that you need to avoid jumpers and bombers). But if you love jumping and bombing then you'll be very happy. They could do with more sunbeds but there is limited space for this. We took our own chairs or just sat on our towels if there were not enough sunbeds. Some large groups/families hog them for the day though!

The reception area organise local activities and trips so we booked a canoe trip and a gabare boat trip. The canoe trips are excellent (the site arrange transport but we drove ourselves).

We had a really good time here and the vibe is very chilled out and friendly. The evening entertainment is mostly aimed at the children.

We took our bikes, which was fine for the children, but the site doesn't really have the space for cycling or running as it just has space for pitches and most of these are up a steep hill. The site is off a very fast main road which is not suitable for a family bike ride. Thrill-seekers may disagree.

The site has a shop for essentials but there are many local supermarkets and shops. The pretty town of Sarlat is very close and is a shopper's heaven.

The site has wifi but you have to pay for this and it appears to have flooded the site so that you need to be 2 miles up the main road before you will get any service on your own device.

We didn't use the restaurant but we did get take-aways, the pizzas being good but the chicken (order the day before) was not enjoyed by those who had it.

We may return to this site but would probably try our first choice a bit earlier next time.

Room Tip: Pitches by the playground are best

Campsite fine, agree with previous comments. It is a shame it's next to a busy road.
Our main compliant is the 'cleaning inspection' that you are subjected to when to check out. You are expected to leave the mobile home as you found it, or pay €100 for a cleaner. I've never come across such a policy anywhere before. The woman who inspects with her clipboard is incredibly hostile. The hire of the mobile home was not cheap, €900 so to have to clean it to a 'professional/show home' standard is a bit mean.

Spent a few days here in August 2013. First, the good points. It's in a great location, in a quiet valley just outside the town of Sarlat. Good pool, decent enough bar, and spacious pitches. So if you're in a tent or caravan, there's plenty to like. But I stayed in what's described as a Commarque bungalow, and could not possibly recommend it. It has all the charm and design ethos (and is constructed at probably the same budget) of a garden shed. Fittings, furniture, kitchen equipment, utensils and beds could not have been cheaper or less agreeable. For 25 quid per night, I'd have been fine with it, but at close on 600 euros a week (plus a risible 70 euro 'cleaning charge') I think the pricing could politely be called ambitious. What else? Didn't avail of the takeaway or restaurant, so can't comment on that. The on-site shop has limited range and limited opening hours, and, bizarrely, only sells you bread and other baked goods if you've ordered them the day before. So my advice is: by all means stay here, but bring your own accommodation. And if you like a croissant in the morning, order the damn thing by 1900 hrs the day before.

We have just returned from a 11 day holiday at Camping Moulin du Roch. The site is well located close to the town of Sarlat in the beautiful Dordogne region. We were in a towing caravan and were positioned on a well sized pitch with nice private hedges to sides and rear. The reception staff were very friendly and efficient. There is a decent on site shop where orders for fresh bread etc.. can be made for the following day.

The swimming pool is a good size with a nice shallow pool for the younger children. The pool can get quite busy round 4pm when it is the hottest part of the day and there are no staff on duty but it tends to police itself. The area is very clean and tidy.

The pitch which we occupied (19) was fairly close to the nearby road which did produce a bit of noise at night but it's hardly motorway. We didn't eat in the restaurant but other campers spoke very highly of the food.

There are activities for younger children during the day but I don't think that this site would be great for children over 8 or 9 as there is little to interest teenagers.

We would return to the site if we were in this area again and would not hesitate to recommend it if asked.

Room Tip: Ask for a pitch away from the bar area
