Our first meal here was so exceptional - in terms of imaginative menu, superb food preparation, terrific wine list, dishes that were utterly unique in color and shape, and absolutely perfect service that we returned to Mariottat the following night, when the place was much busier. The repeat performance was on a par with the previous meal, showing the chef-owner and his wife's great skill in blending traditional and modern trends in French haute cuisine.
Mariottat is pricey but worth every euro, representing good value for its Michelin one-star status (it definitely deserves a second star, though it might lead to a price hike). Whereas Agen isn't exactly the loveliest of French towns, Mariottat makes it a worthy destination along with the municipal museum with some fine archeological exhibits in the basement.
