The tiny little town of Riquewihr France has many Alsatian vineyards that produce fantastic wines. My favorite is Riesling but they also produce many many more such as Gewurtztraminer and Pinot. As you travel into town take note of the extremely LARGE storks nests built up high. As a matter of fact the Stork is the towns symbol because there is such a heavy population of them. If you look up you will more than likely spot an upside down beer bottle on a pole. This symbolizes that there are available bachelors living there. Riquewihr was fought over many times and taken from France to become part of Germany but it was always returned to France. As you walk it's narrow cobbled stone streets you will be able to walk directly through its old town gates. There are plenty of great eating establishments within this small town. I prefer the Creperie as they make some of the very best French Crepes that I have ever had. Riquewihr is most certainly a tourist town but with great offerings. Try some of the macaroons made at the corner shop, they are extremely good! Explore its fantastic variety of unusual shops. Be sure to grab a bottle or to of great Alsatian wine for which this area of France is famous for.

Exploring yourself to stop at charming village with beautiful vineyard scenery, good food with the best wines and take some traditional dessert of Riquewihr. You will amaze with all houses, shops and hotels there.
Every single houses has their own decoration with colourful flowers especially in September.
One of the most beautiful village that I have been there.

That legendary alsatian winery has a small store in the heart of the city, offers a reasonable service and wine tasting for only some of their titles. We're old fans of their delicated wines, but this store is far below the standard of some of their best Gewurtztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris...

Allow yourself to stop by Hugel for a winetasting when you are in Riquewihr. They are locates in the middle of the town and are very easy to fint. We have visited them several times and the staff has always been very serviceminded. We find that the best wines are the late harvest wines (vendanges tardives and sélection de grains nobles) but they are not cheap. Expect to pay at least 30 euro per bottle. In my opinion they are well worth the money.
