We knew that l'Agneau d'Or was good but it still surpassed our expectations. The owner/chef Martin Fache surprises with quirky takes on traditional favourites. However he obviously respects the ingredients so they remain the *star* of every dish, not overwhelmed by "clever tricks".
It's a small establishment with an intimate, cosy feel. We'd arrived early and instead of shoo'ing us away, chef Martin hustled to wait on us.... until his wife Marie-Josee turned up & took over 'front of house'. Once again, it was a class act. Discreet yet attentive, she did not flinch when we did not order the full complement of courses.
Everything on the menu is superb but we recommend you try:
- Choucroute wrapped in crispy bacon, topped with melting Munster cheese
- Duck confit topped with potato mash, bathed in braised porcini mushrooms
- home-made cherry ice cream with warm cherry pudding + cherry compote
We came back for lunch on Saturday, intending to shop at the weekly market. How perfect that the restaurant is just across from the market. Finally we have to say that prices at l'Agneau d'Or are amazing value.
tip: Ask to sit at the tables where you can see the stork nests.
