We booked this hotel spontaneously for two nights on our road trip in France, solely based on the need to cool down in this heat. The pool did not disappoint and the hotel itself is good too, however a fridge/minibar in the room would have been nice to have. The restaurant felt a bit overpriced and lacking in vegetarian options, but that seemed to be the theme for the restaurants in this town. Barr is not an especially lively town, but it is a cute one nonetheless.

I have stayed at Les Hortensias on several occasions in the past but not in the last two years, so with fond memories, I didn't hesitate to book an extended stay with my parents, wife and children; whilst I worked in my company's office in Barr. Unfortunately, Les Hortensias is not what is once was - we managed only one night in our booked room (No. 108) because the shower panel was badly sealed and the bathroom flooded when the shower was used. Although we were moved promptly to No. 103, it was clear that both rooms were tired and in need of renovation. The mini bar was missing in both rooms, the décor was tired and small damages to the doors and walls were present in many places. Our rooms were not serviced every day and fresh towels were not always available. The front desk staff did their best to deal with these complaints but the whole experience was unsatisfactory. The outdoor pool and terrace are the saving grace of Les Hortensias and these facilities were much enjoyed by my two young children. The breakfast was also reasonable but the choice was limited and I had the distinct impression that the breads, meats and cheeses were not fresh every day. All in all, Les Hortensias was my favourite hotel to stay when in Barr, but this is no longer the case and neither my family nor my company will be using it again.

The room was hot and no air conditioning. Opened window but too noisy from people talking in restaurant area up to 3.30 am. Called reception to complain but phone forwarded to voice mail. It was the owner making the noise which shows a total disrespect for hotel guests.

We had four nights here in the middle of a touring holiday round Alsace and Lorraine. The staff were very friendly and our stay was very comfortable. The highlight of this place is the pool, and the beautiful setting surrounded by vineyards. The restaurant was excellent for breakfast and dinner, but there are other eating places (and caves for wine tasting) a very short walk away in the village. Would recommend this thoroughly to anyone looking for places to stay on the Route des Vins.

Imposing building, comfortable place, friendly people. Decent but slightly pricey breakfast. Restaurant seems worth a visit (but didn't have the opportunity to eat there this time round). Free parking, overall for us it was good value for money.
