This was a great hotel, ideal for being in the centre of the port and a stroll away from all the restaurants and shops.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, the room was ideal with a great view and the pool was fantastic.

The hotel is 2 minutes from the port with it's selection of bars and restaurants, the hotel itself was really nice, everything worked fine, and it was lovely having breakfast overlooking the sea. We found the staff to be really helpful and able to speak English (which helped us as we couldn't speak French!) and they were able to give us lots of information on points of interest in the area.

We walked into the lobby and watched as the woman at reception was reciting her standard welcome spiel in French to the guests before us. Cold, mechanical. Half way through she stopped and turned to us, saying "you might as well listen too" and then continued. Beyond basic pleasantries, the hotel staff were disengaged and unresponsive.

Our room was in good condition, on the ground floor, facing onto the front parking area. A little noisy as people and cars drove over the coarse gravel. Porto-Vecchio is absolutely teeming with mosquitoes in May, and the rooms were warm. The aircon wasn't functioning (I suspect it doesn't cool unless the management flicks an "it's summer now" switch somewhere), so we had to open the windows frequently, then chase mosquitoes around the room before bedtime.

We were two people in a three-bed room, so housekeeping removed the third towel after the first night! The gate to the small but pretty swimming pool was broken and wouldn't open, but when we approached reception the response was "we don't have time to help you". When we worked out how to fix the gate temporarily and get in, reception just shrugged when we told them how. Free wifi was largely imaginary, given that our room, a stone's throw from reception, could barely get a signal. On the last morning, there was no wifi at all - when we enquired about it at reception, the response was "oh, it must be the technician checking the systems"... nothing more helpful.

In summary, this is an expensive hotel (like many in the area) with unwelcoming service and a distinct mechanical rigidity. The location for the marina is good, except for the significant noise from the road. It's a 10 minute walk up steep roads to the old town.

Having read other reviews we had some trepidation about our stay at the Shegara, but it was a convenient stop over from a late afternoon flight into Figari. Our experience was quite different to some of the reviews on here. In fact I cannot remember such a friendly welcome in a long time. I like to practise my French but the lady on the desk insisted on speaking in very good English so my wife could understand. She produced maps and provided recommendations on good places to visit and then accompanied us to show us our room. The room was clean, adequate in size with a small but acceptable balcony, had we wanted to sit and admire the very pretty view over the bay. We did not eat in the restaurant downstairs in the evening as we wanted to explore other possibilities a short walk away, so I can't give an opinion on the quality of food on offer. However the buffet breakfast the next morning was copious and when anything ran out our request for replenishment was met with a smile and quick response. The large first floor terrace outside is a lovely place to eat breakfast on a sunny morning, and the hotel clearly has lots of nice spots to while away the time on a longer stay. We have already decided to go back on our next trip to Corsica

Went for 5 days there. Room 56 was big and new, but had no table or chair, not even on the terrace. The bedcheats were never changed and when we arrived there was no more soap and no toiletpaper. When we left, there was still no soap, the paper we had to take ourselfs.
It was indeed very noisy. Luckaly there's not much traffic at night.
Service was at a minimum. There's a bar & restaurant in the hotel, but when I asked to book a table for the evening we arrived, they gave us the tel n°, we had to call ourselfs! So we went to another restaurant, also in those 5 days that we were there, we never saw anybody in the restaurant eating.
I can recommend La Marine, which is at 600m from the hotel.
The hotel has a great view, also from the pool. But no shade at the pool.
It's located 600m from the bars, restaurants and harbour. The center is 1 km up the hill.
If you want to rent a boat, you need a license.
You really need a car out of season to visite the beaches (6kms away), the bus only drives in july & august. The water in front of the hotel is not very suitable for swimming.
I would only go back for 1 night, just to pass trough, not for a vacation.

There have been some bad reviews of this hotel, and on the surface I can understand it. However, if you speak a little French and get used to the rather abrupt manner of ONE reception girl, the staff are actually quite caring and professional. We left an IPOD behind when we left. We realised after we'd driven about half an hour, turned back and went to see if had been found. It had not only been found but the staff had been trying to phone us to let us know, and there was almost a party when we appeared!
Our room was immaculate, and the bed especially very roomy and comfortable. The hotel is a pleasant ten minute's walk from the town centre (downhill on the way back!). The most enjoyable aspect was however the sunrise across the bay - make sure you get a room facing the sea..
We didn't bother with the breakfast as there is a supermarket complex a short drive away where fresh croissants etc can be bought.
Overrall, an enjoyable stay.

We did not have a nice stay here, one member of staff is so rude, why is she doing the job? she obviously hates it and has no idea about customer service, the road is so noisy its not relaxing at all. The breakfast is very overpriced, as are most things in Corsica.
