Radisson Blu Resort & Spa, Ajaccio Bay
Ranked #3 of 10 Hotels in Porticcio
Reviewed September 14, 2012

Before visiting, I had read the other reviews here and knew about past/recent problems. This helped me have the proper frame of mind. Speaking of frames, consider this Radisson Blu to be a masterpiece that was hung in a frame and put on exhibit before the artist had quite finished a few corners of the painting. The location (and sunsets!) are great. The rooms are the best we had on Corsica. The public areas and pool are lovely. Contrary to other guests' earlier reviews, we found the reception staff to be conversant-to-fluent in English, and the housekeeping was fine. Now some of the problems: Rooms are not ready at check-in time. This happened to us, and we saw it happening to guests arriving the next day. At check-in we were not provided the code needed to open the gate to return to the property from the beach. We had to go back and ask. There is no signage to tell you how to enter the parking lot, which has no access from the main road. We had to drive around to figure it out. The restaurant and room service menus are extremely limited, and priced too high. I recall 18 Euro for a cheese plate. No real lighter fare. The food must be fabulous but we were not willing to pay over 20 Euro for simple entrees. Instead, like many guests, we walked next door to where there are 4 or 5 restaurants (including Riv Sud!!!) and a small supermarket with excellent baugettes in the morning. I loved that they had on-site washer/dryer. Ten Euro was a bit much but the convenience to a traveler is great. So my 4 circle rating of this hotel is mostly 5 circle qualities with a small number of 1 and 2 circle problems. I would not hestitate to stay there again...and longer...but one just needs to know and accept these frailties.

First, you must book a sea view room. Otherwise you will have a view of the car park!
The hotel is realy in the middle of nowhere. There are a couple of restaurants nearby, but really not much choice.
The mini bar prices are ridiculous-10 euros for a small Toblerone!
You are charged EUR12 to use the gym!
We found staff friendly, and sea views beautiful. Pool area was excellent although marred by lounge music audible from the bar.
Didn't try the restaurant following others' reviews saying it was expensive. We can believe that, as we're feeling rather ripped off by the incidental charges mentioned above. Have vowed not to spend any money in the hotel!

Room Tip: Sea view a must! Rooms to rear of hotel overlook car park.

Had reserved family room with sea view, 1night, between our 2 weeks of Corsica vacation.
Reception :great service!
Room: everything as it has to be, and with a great view (small finitions to be done, but not of importance)
Swimmingpool: small but ok
Beach: on the other side of the road, but still very convenient. And a very nice beach!

And what can spoil all these fantastic points..... The service at the restaurant....

It started already with the seating:when reseving for dinner we asked to have a table as close as possible to the edge of the terrace:we were told we could not choose the table, they would do their best....
We arrive at 19:30 on an empty terrace, and got appointed a table on the opposite side from what we asked....
As the terrace was at that moment empty, we asked the othertable:answer: sorry these are reserved....??? We said we weretold it was not possible to reserve,..but so itwas...
We order "the catch of the day " for the adults, and 2 pasta with olive oil for the kids....
When our fish arrived, we asked for bread..... ( fish was of ok quality, but i do not believe it to be "catched that day....)
Our meal finished, pasta had not arrived for the kids...
15 min later the pasta arrived, asked again for bread....
15 min later we still did not see bread, and an older lady of the serving team passed by and we asked again for bread..
Which we got immediately...she started piling 4 pcs of bread on a small plate....not asking which bread we wanted, ect...
We pointed out that we asked 3 times for bread without success, and she bluntly responded not to complain to the person who did bring the bread at the end.... Which left us all a bit shocked...

The restaurant needs a decent person in charge: the personnel is young and inexperienced, and run around like chickens without head: normally you try to clean a table on your way back to the kitchen: not here, they all have 1way missions: bring the food to the table, run back to the kitchen to bring the nextfood, go to a table with empty hands, run to the kitchen with an order, but with empty hands.... All resulting in much to long waitingtimes.

Or the personnel gets coached by a good manager, and gets effectiv, or additional personnel should be added!

Pity for my overal note: hotel very good
Restaurant : average....

I would not reccommend this hotel, and I'm sorry to say so. This COULD have been a perfect place, but isn't. I would not stay here again.

First, the rooms are big, modern and have a great size balcony and bathroom. A good bed and nice tv. BUT, the glasses and pottery are not clean, soap and toiletpaper are not refilled, the Wifi is unstable (we made 10 calles to front desk to get new passwords during av 5 night stay) and used glasses are problably just rinsed in the sink (ours had the same lipstick marks all week).

The hotel is new and modern, but not polished. Many places there are still painters tape in the ceilings, the elevators are not framed in, it just seems a little undone....
You "have to" use the elevators all the time, wich are really annoying when there are only four floors in total, and you are usually only going one or two.

The poolarea is good, but the pool is a bit small when there are many families with children. You have to get up early to ensure that you get a bed - they let people "reserve" sunbeds by leaving their towels. Some beds where never used because of this.

The use of the fitnessroom are not included in the price, and the spa did not have a meny in any other language than french. They did not make any effort to explain either.

The staff are polite but not helpful. They seem to be more interested in "getting the job done" than being friendly and making an effort.

The beach is across the road, and is good, and not crowded! :)

There are only 5 "restaurants" nearby - so either have a lot of money to eat at the hotel, or make sure you have a car!

Sorry, I really looked forward to this stay, and even though it was good, it was nowhere near what I expected for that price.

Room Tip: Seaview is a must!

Booked as it was close to the ferry terminal and stayed 2 nights. We would have stayed the whole week had we known how good it was.. The hotel is very clean and well designed. Fyi. It is quite large and probably caters for business groups that could change the atmosphere.

We chose this hotel because we wanted an easy access to the Ajaccio airport but didn't want to stay in Ajaccio. It was a nice discovery, the suite we had was beautifully furnished and had all the amenities you could imagine. It was great falling asleep to the sound of the waves and having the view on the ocean with a big terrace.
The restaurant was excellent, there is also a big buffet at lunch and supper with delicious and beautifully prepared food. Breakfast buffet was great and plentiful as well.
The staff was very nice, welcoming and helpful.
Unfortunately as stated in preceding reviews the hotel just opened and the vegetation around it is not totally developed yet it does look a bit raw from the outside. We found the beach across the street not so bad, it had nice waves and few people compared to other beaches in corsica.
