We (me and my girlfriend) were in Kritikakis in July 2013. Highly recommend Ios and Kritikakis village!

Kritikakis village is near Port. But really near, maybe 5min walk. It is also 5min from the port beach (Yialos/Gialos) which is beautiful and completely satisfying even to spend all holidays there. But if you like to change beaches and don't want to take a reantacar (as two of us:)) there are several public buses from Port (5min form Kritikakis) or some of them stops in front of Kritikakis (buses for Chora-Mylopotas, Kuambara..). There is also a small beach Tzamaria (half way to Kuampara beach), nice for evening (having in mind it doesn't have sunbeds and sun umbrella) and you can even walk to there from Gialos (5min) or take a bus (1.6€ in one direction).
Prices of bus tickets:
- to Kuampara, Chore (Village, center), Mylopotas 1.6€ in one direction
- to Agia Thedoti, Psathi 2.5.€ in one direction
- to Manganari aprox. 3€ in one direction

If you are interested for visits to Chora or nightlife (which is mostly there) you have buses until 23-24h to there and back and if you want to walk you need to walk for aprox.15min on stairs that leads next to Kritikakis to Chora. It is not so easy :))) but I guess it is healthy walk :).

Hotel has a nice swimming pool, free wifi and we had free air condition :)

Rooms in Kritikakis are nice, big and comfortable (see pictures). We were couple and we got extra bed :)! Hot water and water in general is always provided and room service is daily which we appreciated. Our room had a small kitchen with basic things you need if you wanna cook in the room. In front of room is small terrace with sun umbrella and nice view, we liked it :) especially in the morning (shadow side in the morning) and sunset in the evening :))

Owner is Greek-American, communicative and friendly. Everything we asked they helped us or gave us advice and information we asked. When we complained about absence of room service one day they solved it quickly and room was cleaned when we came back. In general, great people and no any bad sides of owner and personnel!

So, in general, great place and be free to stay in this place!

Room Tip: Our personal favourites are rooms 40-41-42, on the top of Kritikakis village. They have wifi almost...

We are a family of 4 and I have to say that our room was more than comfortable, clean with excellent view and spacy! Considering the price, it exceeded more than what we expected - really! Kids didn't have just a small, tiny balcony to share but a whole terrace to play! Friendly personel, traditional decoration and only ten minutes walking away from everything - do you need more???

Room Tip: Just mention you are a family. They really understand what that means!!!

It was a staying that we all want to forget. Typical example of misleading pictures and description. It would be ok if it cost 20 Euro. Rusty tabs in the bathroom which was never renovated since the 80,s when the rooms were built. It was full of surprises when we got in our room. The room was big but very old. The cabinets were old, the bathroom was discusting the tv was not working, the toilet flush was so loud, the door was ready to fall apart the air condition couldn't work for long hours ... The owner built it a few decades ago and since then he never spend one Euro. On top of that was the location. All motorcycles, cars, and buses of the island were passing in front of the rooms. Noise was too much. UNforgetable.

My two friends and I, had a great time on Ios. Definitely, one of the best vacations ever for me, and for them as well.

As far as go for the Kritikakis Village Hotel Apartments, it a nice apartment complex, nothing fancy, but very cozy and clean, I would recommend it I you wish to stay there. It is located near the Port, and it takes very long 15 minutes to get to Village center - City of Chora, which is located up the hill. The rooms are cleaned daily by the staff. Each room features small kitchen and bathroom, which is more than enough for this kind of vacations, hence you will spend most of the day outdoors. Near the Kritikakis Village Hotel Apartments are located many shops, bakeries and souvenir shops. In the apartment complex you will find a small swimming pool as well, nice one...

The busses go regularly, connecting the Port and the Mylopotas beach via Chora. The bus has a stop in front of the Kritikakis Village Hotel Apartments. Mylopotas is the best beach, so I would highly recommend it to you. It has several fantastic beach bars (I highly recommend Karma Beach Bar - great food and service, Far Out Beach Club - party starts at 2 pm, Funky Garden Beach Bar to name several) located on the Mylopotas. Bus will also take you to the Chora, the capital of Ios. It features many windmills next to typical Greek Mediterranean architecture buildings and churches.

From the port, you can find bus transfer to many other beaches as well. Boats will also take you to the Manganari beach, located on the south of the Island. I would highly recommend restaurant on the beach, unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the mentioned restaurant which is a fantastic example of Greek hospitality. Connections to other Cyclades Islands are good. Information and tickets are to be acquired from the Port. We took trip to Santorini, connected both by the speed boats and "regular" ones.

WiFi is free only in Beach Bars, there is a public WiFi network, but is needed to be payed in order to use it.

The island is known for being a place where Homer's tomb is located. We tried to get there and see the site, but we had had a little misunderstanding with the driver, hence he had change the bus route plan and we didn't make it to the site. NOTE: be careful when going on excursions if sightseeing without your travel guide. Always ask, where the bus is headed, the locals speak enough of English.

The party on Ios starts roughly at 2 pm, and continues till dawn on the Mylopotas beach. In the evening there are many clubs and bars offering a great time. The biggest club on the island is "Scorpio".

Being a party island, I would highly recommend this kind of vacation to everybody aged from 18-26, hence the majority of the tourists are of that age span, but it doesn't mean you wont have a great time.

i went to ios in 2003 and i came back in 2004 . i decided to stay there because i liked my last staying there very much . the prices of the rooms were about the same on the island . so , when i decided to go there i considered the hotel offered me everything i wanted . it had a kitchen just like home . it is not really relevant, but when you wake up and want a coffee you can get it yourself , or if you want a coke the fridge is useful . .the apartments were practical . air-conditioning , tv , swimming pool , cleaning service every-day and it was placed in the port near the beach and the bus station .i am seriously thinking to spend my suymmer holiday-2006 there . i liked it and i cannot think of going anywhere else . i visited 13 islands in greece but this is the one i would like to see it over and over.

My husband and I were booked into this accomodation while island hopping around Greece, this turned out to be the worst accomodation that we had been allocated. When we arrived reception seemed surprised to see us and made a very quick attempt to prepare a room for us. The room had a good view but thats about all it had, they were still mopping the room and putting in soap and toilet paper as we were shown to our room. I thought this might be because they were busy but it appeared that we were the only guests there. The pool and poolbar was closed (In June) and the room looked nowhere near as clean or imppresive as the brochure suggested, lights did not work and it looked as though nobody had swept up outside our room since last season. We left our suit and vanity case in the room and took a walk up into the village to discuss what we were going to do In the end we asked an agent in the town to find us alternative accomodation and ended up just over the road in 'Pedros Place' which was fantastic. To top it all when we had finished island hopping we found that 50 pounds in English money had been taken from a compartment of my vanity case, now although I had not been checking this as we moved from place to place (Although I did check two days before going to IOS) I have my suspicions as to when it went missing... but I could'nt possibly say
