We had a great day mountain biking the Mangapurua track to the Bridge to Nowhere, definitely a "must do" ride far any rider. Ken and Josephine are just the best hosts, their local knowledge and love for the area is second to none. They run a great operation and did everyting to make our day a great success: from the pick up from our accommodation in Ohakune right through to our safe return - nothing was too much trouble.

We had an amazing day with Ken the owner and guide for Whanganui River Adventures. It pays sometimes to be a tourist in your own country.
This is a tour worth every cent- a fascinating step back in time in a trip which takes in a jet boat ride, a beautiful gentle walk and an incredible concrete bridge- now immersed in bush and known at the "Bridge to Nowhere". I had always wanted to see it having seen renown photographers Anne Nobles print- and now have done so. Ken was a fantastic guide- he and Josephine his wife, who also runs the business, being born and raised on the river and have a great love of their home and the places they can show you within it.
It is spectacularly beautiful and imbued with a strong sense of Maori and Pakeha history that feels very recent- just overgrown. Its a very easy walk, coffee and tea at the bridge was a nice touch.
Strongly recommended to do this trip as its a piece of real New Zealand- and done so well and simply. We will return and take the trip again- this time with the option to return by canoe which we were out of season for.

My husband and I went on this unique adventure February 2013 and loved it all. The road trip up the Whanganui River to Pipiriki was great. We camped in our tent on what was the old primary school grounds. No showers but we made do with a solar shower and a swim in the cool water of the river itself. 10 of us on the jet boat trip up the river the next morning. Awesome! Just stunning. We went about 30kms up the river with the green reflection of the river walls on the water. Then we were dropped off to walk 1/2 hour up to the Bridge to Nowhere. Easy walk on good path. We took our lunch but hot drinks and biscuits were available. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Walked back to the jet boat and travelled 20kms down river this time where we were dropped off to paddle the last 10kms in a Canadian canoe. Our gear was in a sealed drum tied to the boat, life jackets on, and off we paddled. Two to a boat. 4 small rapids to negotiate and yes, we did get swamped and capsized on one but we just got wet and we hung on to our paddles as instructed. We kicked over to the edge with our canoe and tipped the water out, wrung out our clothes and off we went again. Went backwards down another rapid but always felt safe and arrived back at base almost dry and smiling. Fun and a great experience.

Fantastically well organised day of biking, jetboating and kayaking. An amazing day in, on and around the river. Mountain bike track is brillantly maintained and great fun for all levels. Thomas (the guide) helped build them and his local knowlege and stories brought the history of the place alive. Kayaking was a fun addition - the 50/50 rapid turned out to be just that with half the group getting an early bath. Great company owned by locals Ken and Josie whos family have always worked on tbe
river. Great campsite too. Highly recomended.

We did the cycle trail for approx 5 hours and were picked up by jet boat at Bridge to nowhere and returned to Ohakune. We had a gps so the boat was waiting when we arrived. Our driver was so helpful, waited for us to have a swim to cool off. Unfortunately could not do any spins with the bikes on board. Weather perfect What a day!
