I had reason to stay here for a night in December 2012.

I had one of the new or refurbished rooms in the annex. The cleaners need to check the drawers after each guest ! The room was spacious. The bed was large. The bathroom was a good size and the shower was lovely.

The hotel has free wifi. The reception in my room was far from ideal. Also Vodafone reception was a waste of time in the room. Vodafone works well in the main building.

Dinner was good if not great. Certainly worth the money.

At night it is fortunate that the hotel is in a rural area because there is no curtain on the glass fronted door. I would recommend that this is attended to by the owners before the summer if they want their guests to have a good night's sleep.

Breakfast was good.

We eat at this pub allong with others. My wife,a vegetarian, ordered her food which was served to another diner. When the mistake was found the waitress scraped the vegetables off the plate and served it to my wife. Disgusting, we will never eat there again and will advise others the same.

My ratings say it all. I stopped for 7 weeks whilst working in Whitchurch and couldn't have been happier.
Only 4 stars for location as it is 8 miles from Whitchurch or 3 miles from Market Drayton. But there's a great local taxi if you need it - thanks Chris.
Having said that, there's nothing to beat The Castle in the area, so perhaps it should have been a 5.
5 stars for everything else - I'd award 6 if I could!
Rooms are modern and comfortable with fabulous power showers.
Dave and his team are warm and welcoming, beers great, foods fantastic and great value for money.
Different specials on the menu every day and you can even make up your own meal. Nothing is too much trouble.
Sunday Lunch - wow. Puddings - wow.
The locals are like old friends from day one.
It's the place you wished you lived next door to - a proper home from home.
A special mention to Adrianne in the restaurant - thank you for my "lashings" of sauce / gravy / custard.
A super-special thank you to Anna on the bar - simply the best!

Have stayed in the area a few times but for some reason never considered the Castle inn before.

No matter as it would appear that my timing was spot on.

The room I had was all fresh, from the decor to carpets and a very nice, new en-suite shower room, no complaints.

A new modern television too.

The food was also a nice and a good choice of dishes offered, the menu had it's obvious staples but there was also a good 'Specials' board to chose from.

Breakfast was up to a similar standard with all the usual suspects available to bring on your heart attack as and when you decide! Nicely cooked though so no excessive fat swimming around the plate, just good wholesome food and plenty of it!

All the 'Girls' were friendly and attentive...

The refurbishment is still in progress to a certain extent but nothing that would stop me staying by again.

Just need to get the wi-fi sorted as it was so slow and all but useless, no matter for me as my dongle worked well with a good signal in the area.

I would definitely give the Castle Inn another visit

if you are on the lookout for accommodation. The purpose built block is not immediately apparent yet offers very good sized bedrr
oom an d bed with spacoius en suite. The convenience and effificiency of a good motel with the homeliness of a pub - good breakfast too.

Room Tip: We had room 4 with full view across open countryside.

We were pleasantly surprised. The room was large and comfortable. We did have an upstairs room at first but decided to switch to a lower room. I must admit this felt a lot quieter with the traffic and would probably ask for a ground floor room again.

Everything in the room was clean couldn't fault it. The shower was fab and certainly very powerful.

All the rooms had recently been refurbished with new windows and doors. What I would say to the owner is please put either a blind or curtain on the front door as certainly the early morning daylight blazes the room.

The restaurant had some good choices - no its not fine dining but again the price reflects this although we did find that the chef was over generous with his/her food. £40.00 for two starters, two mains, a small bottle of wine and a martini together with two liquer coffees. Really good value and to be honest perfectly acceptable.

Please note you can't check in until 6.00 p.m. as the pub is shut until then.

We did hear another guest keeping their engine running at 6.00 a.m. and shouting to someone in the car park but this did not detract from our experience. However the manager (I think) asked if we had any problems as another guest had complained. We said we heard the guest in question but these things happen and that it was not the hotel's fault. As we got into the car he gave us a very generous offer which we will take up in the future. I wish I got his name to thank him.

Room Tip: Preferably a ground floor room as somehow the hedge can block the noise of the A41

This was a two night pre booked stay for a local wedding. The accommodation was very good clean and spacious. The bathroom lacked any toiletries except some liquid soap for the wash basin and we had to dash out on the morning of the wedding to buy shower gel and shampoo.
Lovely countryside view to the rear.

Wifi just about worked but was intermittent

We ate in the restaurant on the evening of our arrival. Clearly the bar which was very busy is a popular venue with locals as well as hotel guests. The early evening special menu attracted a great number of diners to the large restaurant which provided simple food in large portions. Certainly not a Gastro pub the food was not great with sauces in sachets with messy tear off corners. A limited wine selection was available at the bar. The staff could not have been more friendly but seem to have been given huge tasks to achieve with one chambermaid who served breakfast having to service ten rooms between 10.00am and midday later to serve lunch. Despite this she managed to be incredibly attentive and smiled endlessly.

Breakfast very indifferent. Bacon cooked some time before service and plates very oily, once again with sauces in sachets and miniscule packs of butter and of course preserves served in those awful plastic tubs that can cut you while you struggle to tear off the top foil without spraying the contents on fellow guests.

Pricing was OK but the price per room charged was not in line with that advertised on the web. I thought that £75 per room was probably too high for this standard of accommodation.

Overall view, very half hearted. They have the tools but just don't get there.

Room Tip: Ask for your loan hair dryer when you arrive and ask for shower gel if you need it
