“Beautiful, peaceful Rustic Portugese retreat - heaven!”
Reviewed March 11, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

I had good email correspondence with the owner mail prior to our stay the communications were lovely - we were given excellent directions to Casa de Lima
On arrival there was a welcome basket with essentials such as milk, coffee, tea, sugar, & a few home comforts, also supplied are washing up liquids/powder, kitchen roll, & other sundries, from experience I know that not all holiday rental owners are this considerate.
The house is a beautiful rustic Portuguese cottage that has been renovated in a sympathetic & beautiful way, with very high workmanship & quality materials. It has been furnished to a very high st&ard with close eye to detail. The furnishing are a mix of some modern & some rustic, keeping the Portuguese charm yet practical. We were very impressed by the variety & quality of the furnishings & fittings & there were really thoughtful items like shopping bags, torch & umbrella’s for guests to use.
There is an excellent selection of information at the house about the surrounding area. General info in a folder including directions, telephone numbers & opening hours for the local supermarkets, information about the markets in the area, doctors, dentists & all of the other general info you might need in an emergency. There is a good selection of information leaflets about attractions & things to do in the area - all very useful!
As we were staying the in the “winter” the fire needed to be lit for the hot water system – this was great & gave you piping hot water – which was plentiful. There were a great supply of dry logs in the barn, & the fire lit easily.
In the kitchen there is an excellent variety of utensils of just about anything & everything you could wish for. I was in seventh heaven when I discovered the electric fruit squeezer (not a juicer – but an electric orange squeezer – great for the beautiful oranges
The bathrooms are both of very high standard all fittings are of high quality, the beds are great & the bedding good quality cotton, very comfy, you get a great night’s sleep.
There’s a BBQ that can be used on the patio - we used it in March. The weather was lovely with beautiful views of the surrounding Pine & Eucalyptus woods & a few farms. It is a very peaceful, beautiful village setting. The main village of Mortugua has a selection of Supermarkets & shops it is about 15 minutes drive from the house.
If you are looking for a tranquil haven in rustic Portugal – seriously consider staying here, it was lovely. Highly recommend!

“Lovely house, beautiful location”
Reviewed March 9, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

My boyfriend and I have just stayed at Casa do Limao for a week. The house itself is lovely – traditional to look at, but inside modernised and re-configured to become comfortable three bedroomed accommodation. It is really well equipped, especially for those who want to balance ‘eating in’ with ‘eating out’. We really used the house as a base for exploring the area, but I imagine the pretty and private courtyard area would be a real asset in the summer time. Within a short distance of the house we discovered a walk leading to a beautiful waterfall, and further afield, a great little market at Santa Comba Dao on a Wednesday morning complete with the piri-piri chicken experience we had been told about! But the high spot for us was a day trip to the Serra da Estrela mountains – about 45 minutes away from the house. The owners had recommended it – as we climbed the well maintained roads to the summit we could stop and look at the incredible views from various vantage points, and the snow at the top was literally the icing on the cake – deep, and largely untouched after a recent fall; the roads were cleared and gritted, so access was easy. I loved our first time in Portugal and would like to come again, perhaps in a different season to see what else it has to offer!

“Comfortable, stylish home”
Reviewed October 21, 2013 for a stay in October 2013

A beautifully restored old house in a blissfully peaceful setting. The scent of the pine and eucalyptus trees was our first impression - and the quiet... Yet the hamlet is alive with villagers tending their vines and there is the feeling of being part of the hamlet. Although keeping all the charm of an old country house, inside it is perfect and has everything you need. In mid-October we didn't need to fire up the lovely wood-stove, but felt cosy in the evenings. After days out, we stayed in and cooked most evenings, and had everything we needed.

“Absolutely fabulous - home from home. Perfect family destination!”
Reviewed July 30, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We had a fabulous two week stay this summer with my husband and two sons (aged 9 &13). The house was very well kitted out, especially the kitchen. The house is in a lovely rural location, with wonderful aromas of the eucalyptus trees.

The owner was extremely helpful with advice on activities to do with the family and there are plenty of brochures, books and phrase books at the house to help plan your stay. She even arranged freshly baked rolls to be delivered each day! The pool table and plunge pool was a big hit with our boys.

The location of the property was perfect for visiting this part of Portugal, with the white sandy beaches being about 1 - 1.5 hours drive; the wonderful Roman Ruins at Conimbriga; a canal boat trip at Averio - great shopping here too! There is a cycle route about 15km away on an old railway line which connects Viseu with Santa Combo Dao.

A great location for a family holiday were you can either chill in the peaceful surroundings at the house or be out and about visiting the sites of central Portugal.

Thank you for a lovely stay.

It sounds like you got to do some of the things that our family love to do in the area too - thank you for the additional information about the cycle path/bike hire which we now look forward to exploring ourselves later this summer! Thank you for the great review - you would all be most welcome to use the house again any time!

“Excellent property and ideal getaway”
Reviewed June 17, 2013 for a stay in November 2012

We spent just under 2 weeks in Casa do LImao with our 1 year old son in November and had a simply magical time. The house came equipped with everything you could possibly need or want, all very tastefully done and with quality finish. It felt like a home, rather than a house, which for our family was perfect. We cooked wonderful food from local markets, our little one practised walking in the yard and garden and we generally got the peace and down time we needed. We also appreciated the fact that there is a bath as well as a shower - such a nice addition to a holiday home.
The village is very simple, with only houses and their market gardens, and so you'll need a car to access shops and cafés, but that makes for a truly relaxing holiday.
There were many pamphlets, guidebooks and suggestions on where to visit locally and not so locally, so we filled our time with some great forays too. We also went for daily walks in the surrounding forest, collecting fir cones for the wood burner,
All in all, it was just what the doctor ordered. Escaping the rat race with all mod cons. Perfect.
