“Perfectly adequate”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

if not memorable. Menu is very standard chain pub fare, not bad and service is fine. It does a job at a decent price.

“Really good all round and well worth a visit or ten!”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

We live in the general area and spent 40 years in the hotel business before retiring. We've sampled many pubs and restaurants, too, so we're quite well-qualified to give an opinion. The Rose Cottage offers excellent, comfortable surroundings in which to enjoy a range of dishes which should satisfy most tastes.

We've paid three visits since the re-opening, selecting different dishes each time, and each has been most enjoyable in all respects. We haven't actually sampled any desserts, because the first two courses have never left enough space, but it's a fair bet they're as good as the rest of the food, which has been consistently well-prepared and presented by friendly staff.

It's evident that dishes are prepared freshly from scratch, the place is too small and prices are too low to warrant a full brigade in the kitchen, so a little more time should be allowed, particularly at busy periods There's a decent selection of drinks, including a couple of real ales and some very reasonably-priced wines, so it's possible to enjoy spending extra time in comfort, anyway.

Give the place a try. Judge for yourself. We don't think you'll be in any way disappointed.

“All show with no content”

This is a wonderful looking place, really over the top, with comfortable seating and helpful staff.
The food is definitely below average for it's reputation.
Prawn and crab cocktail - served with overpowering raw onions, and German sausage - with rice?
I had the fish and chips. Good batter and well cooked, but nothing special.
My husband had some sort of meat strips in sauce, which was tasteless.
We didn't bother with dessert.
Wine was well priced but slow to come and unceremoniously given.
No water offered.
All in all an unrepeatable experience.

“Decor and surroundings led one to expect so much more”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

Recently ate here whilst staying at Centre Parcs . On walking in the surroundings are really lovely making it feel very warm and inviting. food was ok with good sized portions and reasonably priced..The biggest let down was the service really poor waited until we had nearly finished our main course before any drinks were brought to the table .. Ordered a bottle a wine with a cork and they had no cork screw ..sort of says it all really ...
I would give this place another go as clearly they have got some bits right but they do need to work on the bits that really matter
