After an earlier try to get there ruined by the bushfires spent an evening at the Stanley Pub and what a great experience. The hospitality was first class, the rooms terrific and wow the meals the best we have had in a long time. Anne marie and Shane could not have been more accomodating and Shanes knowledge of local wines was impressive. we will certainly be back soon. what a terrific evening.

Yes it is now over twelve months since our initial trip to Stanley Pub. We visited again on two separate nights in December 2012. Our wonderful hosts greeted us like long lost friends and everything we remembered about our first visit was there to greet us again. A beautiful serviced room, a fantastic gourmet breakfast to help yourself to and incredible dining with wonderful unobtrusive but attentive service. It was wonderful to toddle off to our French Provincial room which was part of the hotel and dining experience. Again I couldn't resist asking for the tarte tartin!

Room Tip: There are only two rooms to choose from. We had the smaller one which was lovely and quiet.

We enjoyed our first meal as a stopover on the way to Melbourne so we thought should stay as well as eat here.
The highway is packed with mediocre motels and we have often kept driving rather than stay in what's offered like Holbrook, Tarcutta etc.etc.
This time we broke the trip up and stayed in a couple of wonderful b and b type places - thoroughly enjoyed them.
The room is pleasant and all you need but the special treat is dinner.
Lynn was able to eat borscht for the first time in years - goats cheese instead of cream and it was wonderful. The swordfish main and its accompaniments was similalry top quality.

In desperate need of a peaceful weekend away, I remembered reading reviews of the unassuming Stanley Pub in one of the Melbourne newspapers. We ended up staying for 2 blissful nights in a romantic but not tizzy room, with a spacious ensuite and the balcony was accessible through french doors. Even though it was very cold and raining in the late afternoon when we arrived, Shane had put the heater on and the lamps were lit and we immediately felt welcome and relaxed. It's the little things that make the difference. We booked for dinner and were glad we did! The dining room was packed and we had a lovely spot near the open fire. Our meals and wine were superb, while Shane's service was attentive without being intrusive.

Although we retired while the dining room was still busy, we didn't hear a thing through the solid walls. We awoke refreshed and were totally spoilt by one of the loveliest breakfasts we've enjoyed anywhere! Home made muesli, yoghurt, jams, bread and superb local fruit and nuts were set out for us in the breakfast room with an array of special teas and coffees as well. We reluctantly returned home after a short but refreshing break in this beautiful part of the world, glad that we'd indulged in Shane and Anne-Maree's hospitality of the Stanley Pub. Would love to return ... any excuse will do!

We recently had a weekend in Beechworth and went to Stanley for lunch at the pub. The food was outstanding and the service spot-on. Great lawn for kids to roam outside. Absolute must if you are in the area and appreciate great cooking.

We are regulars to Beechworth and come to the Stanley Pub almost every visit. Shane and Anne-Maree are superb hosts and greet us like good friends every time. The Stanley Pub is an unassuming little country pub, but don't be fooled. Inside lies a beautiful, warm and rustic french inspired restaurant with a glowing fireplace. Whilst the menu holds only a small selection of entrees, mains and desserts, you can be sure that each meal is locally sourced, superbly designed and beautifully presented. The meals are delicious and can be perfectly matched to wine; just ask Shane who used to be the Sommelier at The Range Restaurant in nearby Myrtleford.

Enjoy it before the rest of the world finds out about this little country treasure.

We have now dined at the Stanley Pub on 3 occasions. The first was a Sunday lunch with friends which was stunning, the food, wine and service were all wonderful. The next two occasions were when we found excuses to travel via Stanley for business reasons. We had not booked on either of the latter occasions, yet we were warmly greeted and seated and once again enjoyed beautiful meals in a lovely country atmosphere.
Our next trip we are hoping to avail ourselves of the accommodation on offer.
