“Stunning views, amazing hotel and delicious food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012

We stayed here for one night only in the end of August 2011. We booked through their website and got a package deal with one night stay, picnic basket at arrival, 3 course meal and breakfast included. The picnic basket was a bit uninspiring, but it didn't really matter so much. Our room was on ground, or shall I say sea level, which meant we could have jumped into the water straight from our door, however at the end of August and rain hanging in the air, we weren't so tempted. The rooms are all tastefully decorated, decent size considering you're floating on water, nice clean and fresh bathroom and the bed was super comfy. We had a lovely view over the water and there was even a desk by the window and free wifi. We walked around the island for a few hours, took our picnic with us and just pootled around, the island is simply stunning, filled with nooks and crannys, narrow little paths between the houses and it's utterly photogenic. It was very quiet and peaceful everywhere as it was the end of the season, but if you come here in June, July it will be buzzing of locals as a lot of the houses are only holiday homes. We had our 3 course meal in the evening and it was exquisite, one of the best meals we've ever had. The food they use is local and fresh produce and changes depend on the seasons catch of fish, they do serve meat as well. We had to pay extra for alcohol, but this is Sweden and alcohol is always going to be expensive there, so this was expected, but the wine they suggested was superb. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. We had heard from friends that its the season for 'sea sparkle' and asked the staff if this was true. The girl serving us told us about it, she even went outside to 'test' and came back and told we should be able to see it and where to look for it. We went for a night time wander and in a dark bay we found it, it was really amazing to see. So if you stay here towards the end of August, don't miss out on the sea sparkle! The breakfast is, as expected with Swedish hotels, full of good choices and you feel full and satisfied after.

The only downside about this place is that the floating sauna boat is not available for 'normal guests' but only available through private hire. It would really add to the experience if you could have a sauna in the evening and go for a dip in the sea, at least when it's not booked for private affairs.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the water side and not the 'dock side'. If you ask for a sea/groun...

Unique retreat that offers great views and serves top local cuisine. We enjoy the walk in Kladesholmen village with its colourful collection of wooden holiday homes and sailing boats of all shapes and sizes.

It`s not a BAD place, by any means. You can sleep there and get a good breakfeast. BUT charging a rate that would put us in a standard room at the Oriental in Bangkok or the Kempinski in St Mortiz seems beyond ridiculous. Their target segment seems to be the swedish corporate conference set - not known for its discerning ways, and of course not paying out of their own pockets. The rooms (which hardly deserve that name) are barack accomodations, tiiiiny, and mounted on a floating pontoon. We brought our daughter - and yes they did warn us that this would be a bit "tight", but then they even forgot to put in the extra bed, and since we were at a BBQ with friends and family until late so no staff left ... I ended up sleeping on the floor (the "bed" barely accomodates two - and of course not three when one is a squirming teenager). To their credit, this was apologized and deducted from the bill (the standard addition for extra bed is 25% of the room charge, rich by most standards). The staff explains the outrageous rates with the standard "this is our high season", and if it is, we would suggest having something other than kids manning the fort and keeping a 24/7 service during these key weeks - we were dealing with young, inexperienced staff so we tried to stay friendly and enoy what we could. Everything - and I mean everything - is "extra", from the use of the hotel bicycles via the request for heating the sauna to the evening cup of tea (not such facilities in the room), which is way out of line with the rates requested for the rooms. We also had dinner there our second night (it is considered the best eatery on the archipelago of Tjörn, and unfortunately they are probably right as we have tried some other places as well), but aside from an impressive herring starter the rest was ... unimpressive, and the overcooked piece of meat which our courteous daughter refused to send back to the kitchen in spite of our attempts to do so ... does not encourage a future visit.

The location is superb and the food very good but be warned- it is a conference facility and having to sit close to 50 over excited and very loud delegates on our first evening was unnerving. we were not offered a drink on arriving in the dining room or water and bread which is normal in Sweden. After 15mins I ventured out of the dining room to ask for water and a flask was thrust into my hands - We were then told that we had to have the set meal the same as the conference and it took a further 10 mins of asking before they would tell us the price - the promised Herring table was not available although reception had told us it was was we arrived. After being reduced to tears because we couldn't hear ourselves think let alone speak to each other we asked to be moved to another room to eat. A thoroughly unpleasant experience and no apologies. The website advertised access to the sauna was a bit 'off' as it took 2 hours to be avaiable and cost 15SEk per head! Our second evening was much more what we had expected but the menu in October is definately a restricted one and does noit deliver on the wide range of seafood advertised on the website when we booked. Great concept spoilt by inexperienced and rude staff

This small hotel is in the herring capital, so it should come as no surprise that you get great sea views... And the chance to try a lot of herring. This floating hotel houses clean, simple rooms each named for a spice and brightly painted to carry the theme throughout. The room's modern bathroom was large and very nice with a shower. The breakfast served is large, varied, and delicious -- one of the best hotel breakfasts we can remember from our travels -- and served in the waterfront dining room. Would love to visit again if we head back to Sweden.

This restaurant or inn is actually more of a small hotel. Its situated and bulit on a pontoon and floats on the water. The restaurant is specialised on seafood and is probably one of the best in western Sweden and has a wonderful seaview right by the quay. There is also a separate lunch restaurant during summertime with excellent smorrebrod probably some of the best in Sweden. A separate bar is also adjacent to the hotel. The room was normal in size in bright colours. Very modern in design. Free wifi, flat screen TV with international channels. The bathroom was large with a shower. There is a lovely rooftop terrace where one can sunbathe. The hotel breakfast was probably the best when it comes to quality that we have ever had at any hotel in Sweden. On the negative side the cleaning of the rooms wasnt top notch and also it is a bit expensive compared to other hotels.
