After seeing hundreds of northern Thailand temples this one stands out as exceptionally impressive, and usually very quiet because it's sort of hard to find, well off the beaten path. There is a massive reclining Buddha statue being built which is a good reason to come back again in a few months. Meanwhile it makes for a good day outing (self-drive) combined with Mae Taeng elephant camps and the Bua Tong (Sticky) waterfalls which are nearby.

I live in mae taeng and was surprised when they started building the temple, it has lanna style and Burmese all mixed. the plaster figures of monks are amazing. so real. you look at them and they look back at you. gave me goosebumps.
recently they added a bunch of ceramic roosters................and of course all of the thai mythical creatures are there. for such a huge complex it is amazing that there is only one monk. he is seldom there. up to 5 years ago no tourist buses came. the large chedi took 15 years to finish. but if you want a real treat go there at night. it is mystical with the lighting. there is a little coffee shop nearby.

This amazing Buddhist temple [wat] complex consists of many fine examples of traditional Thai Buddhist architecture despite it being a fairly modern development. Lots of photo opportunities with mountain views in the distance overlooking lush fields of rice and other crops. Ideal 'stop-over' on your way to Mae Ngat dam and reservoir - another 'must see'.
