“Waking up to stunning views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2013

We stayed at the lodges in Conifer #3. Stunning views from the living room/kitchen area and from the twin bedroom. The 3 bedroom lodge was really great. The dishwasher didn't work so we mentioned it to Colin, but wasn't a big deal as we can wash dishes, even on holiday. For the rest everything was great and there is everything you need (Tesco's is about 7 minute drive). Upon arrival we were were suggested to visit the Barn for dinner, but we did it for lunch and it was very nice and fitted in with our short trip. Oban is very scenic, but on Sunday there isn't much to do. Even on Monday morning we struggled getting a breakfast :-) But we loved our little 3 night break away and were happy to have had a lodge with great views and near the swings for the girls, even if we had to pay for the use of electricity, which we knew in advance.

Room Tip: Conifer 3 was brilliant location near the swings. Conifer 6 and 7 looked good also.

Stayed at Pitstruan Cottage - 10 of us in total - 6 adults and 4 children, for a week over New Year. Cottage is spacious, very nicely decorated, spotlessly clean, and most of all well stocked with just about everying you would need for a holiday. The only thing we needed to take was ourselves and our clothes. We didn't even need to take food with us as the local Tesco delivered to the cottage which was an added bonus!!!! Location of the Cottage and it's surroundings in nothing short of stunning, and to open your curtains in a morning and see the mist of the Loch is beautiful.

There really was nothing that we could criticise about the cottage. There was ample room for us all, and with 3 bathrooms, there was never a queue for the loo!! The kitchen was stocked with every utensil, pan, plate, oven dishes, washer, dishwasher, tumble dryer etc that you could think of, and there was also ample bedding. We even found a hoover, iron and ironing board under the stairs.

For those with children (or even those without), there is also a large selection of games in the cupbard in the dining room which for those not wanting to watch TV, could play for hours on the different aray of games and cards. In addition, there was also a selection of DVD's, Videos and books.

The Cottage also has free Wi-Fi which was definately an added bonus as all 4 kids had received I-Pads or Tablets for Xmas and so could log onto the internet whilst they were there. TV has Sky Channels for only the standard ones.

Arrived on Saturday 29th December, and because we were early for our check in (we had travelled from the North West), we stopped in at The Barn pub which is on the one-track road down to Lerags, and is a must to visit, as you won't be dissappointed!! We loved it so much, we went around 5 times during our week long stay.

Can honestly say that for the cost of this cottage for a week, it was the best money every spent.

Thanks Colin & Jo. Hope to see you again soon!

We visited Lagnakeil as a big group for a hogmanay break and were very, very impressed. Friendly and helpful hosts welcomed us and gave us lots of great tips about surrounding area. The cabins were great, everything we would need (dishwasher!) and comfortable beds and furnishings. The only thing that would have improved our experience would have been if electricity and internet costs were included in the upfront cost of the hostel. It just would have made us relax even more rather than thinking about the costs we might be amounting.
Also maybe if some cleaning products were included - dishwasher tablets, dishwashing liquid etc. and it would have been great to have a dvd player.
However I really can't praise how helpful Colin and Jo were enough. They were the perfect hosts in that they were always on hand, helpful and accomodating when it came to booking and paying for the lodges (complicated as there was so many of us!), there in a flash when we couldnt figure out how to unlock the cabin door but not at all intrusive and left us to get on with it and relax.
The surrounding area is also BEAUTIFUL. perfect for spooky wintery walks. I would definitely recommend cabins for a group of friends wanting a holiday.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at Lagnakeil. Colin bent over backwards to accommodate some of our rather unusual requests and made us feel very welcome. I wouldn’t say that the lodges are particularly luxurious, I’d describe them as basic but functional compared to other lodge chalets we have stayed at in Scotland. However the location was perfect and we had no problems finding the place using Google Maps. It is secluded enough to feel the relaxation of the country side yet close enough to Oban to pick up anything we needed within a few minutes.

I loved the natural brown drinking water out of the tap which went very well with a glass of Tobermory and Laphroaig Cask Strength after our BBQs. The water colour was a bit disconcerting when going to the toilet or washing but we got used to it.

I was slightly annoyed at the WIFI payment and poor Internet strength. It really doesn’t cost much to install a router and a few repeaters around the site. A onetime purchase and then a monthly Internet fee to your Internet Service provider means that monthly charges should be very low. However Colin obviously knows his clients better than me so when he writes that most guests don’t want Wifi I cannot argue against that. It was however annoying.

The bottom line is that we have wonderful memories of our week and would definitely consider returning. Whenever the stress at work gets too much for me, I close my eyes and think of the view from outside the lodge in Lagnakeil. Ah!

We're just back from yet another fantastic stay at lagnakeil. We stayed in one of the conifer lodges which was literally a home away from home.

There's a great restaurant about 2 minutes drive away or a fifteen minute walk, however you are walking through fields in pitch black so definitely take a torch.

Will be booking again for Easter holidays next year :)

This was a return visit for us this year to Lagnakeil Highland Lodges and it didn't disappoint. We even managed to time it right with the weather. The scenery around the lodges is beautiful when the weather is right.

The Lodge was immaculate when we arrived (as it had been last year). Very nicely laid out with a great kitchen with everything you could ever need, 2 double bedrooms and a room with 2 single beds. More than enough room for the family. Clean linen on all the beds, fresh towels, spotless bathroom and kitchen, what more could you ever need.

Situated only minutes from Oban centre but amazingly quiet and secluded, this is definitely one of my best destinations for a break away from work and home. 2 minutes from a great local bar/restaurant too. The Barn. Literally 2 minutes away by car, or just over the hill if you prefer to walk. Just bring a torch. It gets a touch dark at night.

I had a telescope with us this year. I have NEVER in my life seen as many stars in the sky as i did on our weekend. This made my weekend EVEN better than it already was.

The Lagnakeil Highland Lodges are well worth every penny if you want to be relaxed in quiet surroundings but still have your home comforts (away from home). Next year can't here soon enough so we can go back......
