“Cyclades Seaside Beauty”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2014

The Vrahos Boutique hotel is an architectural beauty perched along a Folegandros mountain back drop, terracing towards the Agean Sea and overlooking the tiny port of Folegandros! Situated less than a 5 minute walk to quaint tavernas and a mini market or only a 5-10 minute car or bus ride to the Chora (Hora town square). There is also a lovely restaurant in the hotel itself if you do not feel up to venturing out!
The staff here were AMAZING!! (Anna and her family :) ) Genuine, friendly and very, very helpful! When you hug them goodbye, you will understand just how kind and gracious they really are!! Folegandros Island is small in size but enormous in beauty and charm!
If you are looking for an island to really "unplug" and unwind, then you will find it here!
The Vrahos Boutique Hotel is perfect hotel from which to enjoy and explore beaches, cliff tops and historic sites all while you immerse yourself in the tranquility of this lovely little island! Peace and serenity included!!
Would we stay here again??? Yes, yes, yes!!!

Room Tip: The unique rooms here are terraced so there are steps the climb, but all of the rooms have stunning...

You are on a greek island. You are far away from everything. That is bliss, but please consider that this makes the work of everybody who work in hospitality very difficoult.

Remind yourself about the remoteness you had the fortune to experience before you complain! Respect the level of service this small, unassuming, yet elegant hotel has to offer! Since the check in I finally thought 'at last!' I travelled extensivelly and I can ensure that this is what you want: focused, efficient people that are willing to share with you local knowledge that can add value to your holiday experience.

The receptionist provided all information I needed. No more, no less. All served with a genuine, knowing smile and an intelligent streak of true greek irony. Don't come here if you need to check your email every 5 minutes or if you are a relentless whorkaholic. If you are, then the wi-fi facilities are more than adequate throughout the property.

Breakfast: is one of the best buffets I experienced while in Greece. Small touches of local and global flavours that will tingle your palate since the early hours of the day. Nice filtered coffe and a very good nespresso to start the day. The staff in the breakfast room is unassuming, yet perceptive and ready to react to your requests. Use your empathy when dealing with people, you are in one of the best islands in the Cyclades, you don't want to miss the experience. Cherish it when you are back home.

The reccomendations you ask your reception assistant are heartfelt and always valid: I was suggested to go to 'Kali Kardia' last night. Kali Kardia means 'Good Heart' and that is what you get: Lovely, simple and extremely fresh sea food served with a genuine attitude. Forget the commercial smile: This people are for real, engage!

The rooms: very clean and serviced well, you get all you need. Southern people generosity, can you relate to that?

The view from the hotel is quintessentially mediterranean. If you are in this part of the world to experience that, there is little competition around.

To me it was crucial to stay in a hotel with easy access to the sea and many beaches. This is what you get when you stay at Vrahos: an astounding variety concentrated in a few hundreds meters.

In a nutshell: Enjoy, relate to people, explore, be curious, leave your daily concerns at the airport.

Although it doesn't have a swimming pool, it has a jacuzzi. The staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast buffet was good and the room was really nice with a beautiful view over the bay. Stayed 3 nights and it was great.

Stayed here two nights at the end of May - great hotel, amazing staff. Anna was extremely helpful and made our stay very comfortable. We went at a time when the tourist season hadn't yet begun and services were not entirely running on the island but we loved our time away on this peaceful, quiet island. Would definitely suggest renting an ATV, motorbike or car to travel around the island and beaches. Hora, the main village is about 3 kms away from Vrahos and it is a nice drive or walk to this cute, picturesque village!

We really enjoyed a good night sleep. The quality of the matresses was superb.Buffet breakfast was also very well prepared, offering a variety of typical greek flavours as well as international ones. The spectacular view, the variety of room decoration, the cleanliness and the hospitality of the owners will definitely make us visit Vrachos Boutique Hotel again in the future, as this one was the second time

My first visit to the Greek islands, and Karavostasis exceeded my expectations. A charming, friendly village that is also the port and guest yacht harbour for Folegandros so there is always some activity. Only a handful of hotels which all fit unobtrusively into the landscape, as well as a good selection of studios and rooms to let. Village facilities include a mini-market, several cafe/tavernas and a choice of vehicle rental outlets. If visiting during the low season and you want to eat fish, be warned. In two different tavernas I found the fish over-cooked, over-priced and not as fresh as it should have been considering the fishermen's boats were just across the road! The beach in the middle of Karavostasis is stoney but there are trees to provide some shade and the water shelves fairly gently making it easy to bathe.
The mini-bus from the Hotel Vrahos met the mid-morning ferry from Pireaus with a friendly welcome and within minutes I had checked in to the hotel even though it was some hours before the stated check-in time. Of course, this bonus might not be possible during high season when the hotel is full. The Vrahos Boutique Hotel is built onto the steep hillside and the rooms are in several groups. My room happened to be on the top level with a stunning view over the bay and the village as well as across to Sikinos. Not being in the first flush of youth, or as fit as I should be, I was delighted that my suitcase reached my room before me, as getting up and down the 109 steps was a bit of a struggle at first. However by the end of my stay I could have competed with one of the mountain goats on the island! There is a small parking area at step 102 for wimps with cars/scooters/quadbikes. The topography of the hotel makes it impossible to have a lift, so sadly it is unsuitable for people with serious mobility needs.
In terms of size, my room was adequate rather than spacious, but it was enhanced by a shady veranda at one end and a sun-bathing terrace at the other with a very comfortable hammock. The hotel also has other sun terraces at different levels, one of which includes a jacuzzi with an infinity view. The room had all the expected facilities - Air-conditioning (discretely disguised as a picture), flat-screen TV (who wants TV on holiday?), room safe (my mobile and wrist watch spent a week in there), fridge (with a welcoming bottle of water, but no other drinks), midi-stereo (supply your own CDs) and traditional craft furniture. The one slight quirk was the sliding door that covered either the shower cubicle or the loo, but not both. OK for a solo occupant, but for two people..........? As I was there to relax with a collection of books and music on my tablet, it could not have been bettered. Some previous reviewers have commented on the patchiness of the Wi-fi. True, but think of all the spam that you do not have to delete!
As the Vrahos Hotel is on the south side of Karavostasis bay, all the room verandas provide shady comfort from the strong sun. The downside is that the hill behind the hotel prevents you seeing the renowned Aegean sunsets, but one of the best of my photographs is of the setting sun lighting up the cliffs of Sikinos across the water.
Meals were taken al fresco in the Verges Restaurant. Breakfast, either continental or cooked, is served buffet style, while lunch and dinner is from a limited menu that changes daily. The term 'friendly' does not begin to describe the staff - cheerful, helpful, attentive, multi-lingual and the word 'rush' is missing from their vocabulary. And there was always that lovely view over the bay.
The Greek practice of charging by the room, rather than by the number of occupants, makes the Vrahos Boutique Hotel extremely good value for a couple when compared to UK prices for a similar hotel. As a solo traveler I was still paying the same price, but even so it was about 30% less than I would expect to pay in the UK.
Would I go back? I've already started putting the £2 coins in the piggy bank!
