“The rv camp hostess was awesome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2014

I read the reviews on trip advisor before booking my stay at the RV park. I really don't understand how anyone could have a negative review of the people that worked there. I was there for bike fest where they were inundated with people yet the hostess treated me and those around me as if we were the only ones there. were inundated with people and the camp hostess treated me and everyone around me as if we were the only ones there, always helping beyond what we could expect. We were all talking about how we couldn't believe anyone could be so nice and helpful under the circumstances of being slammed with people. It was a great experience and we will all be back.

We went on a hiking vacay to Big Bend and since it was just my husband and me and no kids this time, we decided to enjoy a nice sleeping arrangement instead of cabins. This is a great little place. It is not a perfect resort, it's in the middle of nowhere with limited staff and facilities. The biggest piece of advice I can give is go in not expecting excellent luxury, but rather a great little place near Big Bend. The golf course is amazing...that was worth the entire trip! We had a few issues but the manager was excellent and worked with us to resolve them. I really would recommend this place, just go in with a laid back attitude! Enjoy the pool in between the desert vistas! We would go back, next time dragging our kids along.

Room Tip: We stayed in the cabins farther away and across the street from the main building. I would recommend...

Went to college in Alpine but hadn't been there in 40 years.
The Lajitas resort was great; being there in February and 75 degrees when the rest of the country was froze over. We stayed at the RV park played golf and even if you dont play you need to rent a golf cart just to drive the scenic course.Drove the river road to Presidio and made the loop to Ft Davis and the observatory and back thru Alpine. Toured all the park and hiked my ? off. Trails are easy and you can pick the length you want. Everything at the resort was great best massage I've ever had.
If you have to have cell phones you will need a sat phone.
It was great absolutely great.

Room Tip: winter not summer it is the desert

First you need to remember that you're as remote as you can be in the US Southwest. It can be extremely hot, dry, windy and dusty in the rugged Big Bend area. Therefore it's unlikely that you'll find 5-star accommodations one might expect for a "resort and spa". However Lajitas GR&S comes as close as you can get given the conditions. Rooms were clean and functional with a touch of tasteful, rustic decor. The staff were courteous and efficient. While the restaurant can't be compared to culinary institutions of other resorts, it can clearly compete with the best restaurants of nearby towns within a hundred miles. You might also meet the mayor of Lajitas in the adjoining Thirsty Goat bar if you're lucky. After a day of physical activity, the dining arrangements were more than satisfactory. The General Store is nearby for take-out lunches too.

Note that Big Bend National Park is a good hour drive away and another half hour to Chisos Basin. If you want to hike the rim trails you should leave at the crack of dawn. Alternatively you are very close to Big Bend State Park and associated Barton Warnock visitor's center, which provided us with some great trails nearby.

If you want something upscale when visiting this truly unique environment, Lajitas GR&S should be your first choice.

This resort is a long way from anywhere, but the rugged beauty and desert mountains make it worth the trip. Lots of interesting history in the area. The hotel is worth the relatively high price. We stayed in the Officers Quarters and enjoyed having a separate sitting room. The view was great. The bar, The Thirsty Goat, was a blast and has the most intriguing nude painting hanging in it. The hotel restaurant was average. I don't golf, but the course looked nice.

Room Tip: Try the Officers Quarter.

Welcome to Lajitas resort. For starters, this resort, as I said in the title, is in the absolute middle of Big Bend, which is the worst place in North America, if NOT the planet Earth, for cell phone service. There is zip. Not much you can do about that or the relatively slow Wifi speed, so oh well. The good thing about that is Lajitas is away from it all, and very pretty. The main building, the Badlands hotel, is quite a cute compound with a WONDERFUL cafe. Yummy chips, good burgers, great steaks. The manager is also one of the nicest people I've ever met. Very helpful, and trying very hard to make it a nice resort.

The rooms were nice. There are things you could nitpick about, but overall, it was nice. Comfy bed, nice shower.

I hope this resort continues to develop. It is by far the best place to stay in Big Bend, and Big Bend is a uniquely wonderful undiscovered and unspoiled area in the world.

We have stayed for 4 nights as we were exploring the Big Bend. Lajitas is a pretty convinient location to visit the park.
The views and the set up of this little village resort are great. The rooms we thought were a bit simple for the price - but clean and not bad. The windows did not open in our room - which is a miss with this perfect fresh air. But we had a nice terrace so we could sit outside and enjoy.
The stars at night are not to be missed - amazing and hard to find anywhere outside of remote Texas areas I think. That alone is worth a trip!
The hotel provides a lot of activities - we have done some shooting. There are also horses, verious sports in the Big Bend and etc. But make sure you book in advance. We have tried to book some spa treatment as we have arrived - and we were already late.
I give it a four for the food - which was not bad, but nothing particularly great either. I have missed fresh fruit and plain yogurt on the breakfast.
