“campground is exceptional”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

We stayed at the campground as part of a Big Bend bicycling trip and were extremely pleased with both the facilities and staff. I've stayed here before on bike trips and the manager, Tim, has always gone above and beyond to make our stay pleasant and free of complications. The pool is clean and inviting, the courtyard is picturesque and the camping areas are well-maintained. This is definitely the best place to stay in the area.

By any measure, this property is a diamond in an area that is more than rough... but even so, it is over priced....it happens to be the only place around that is decent, clean, and has a bit of class..but not excessive. The usual stuff is handled well..check in, room keys,-- but then no bellman to help with luggage or direct to room...just a here it is on the map and away you go... for the price, not acceptable.

Rooms were small, without even a small writing desk..and with a limited number of wall outlets---wifi worked well, but then, does not take much to make it work well.... loud neighbors..too many people into small space...and us next door.

One good point--restaurant was just fine...solid service..good views...and food that worked.

So, here is my advice... skip this place. drive to Alpine or up north...save yourself a couple hundred bucks..and head for Vegas........

We have traveled all over Texas except the Big Bend area and decided to give it a try. The drive on I-20 is fairly boring and definately not scenic but once you go South towards Alpine you will see that it is well worth the drive to see the beautiful mountains. If you like to hike, canoe, ride atv's or horses, hunt, golf and just find a place of rest with no cell phone this is definately a trip for you. It's definately a well kept secret in the middle of nowhere but the food is amazing and the people are wonderful! Casey is the activities director and she was great and so friendly. Karen took us on a scenic horseback ride, John cooked us an amazing dinner outside and back riding off into the sunset. My favorite was shooting guns at the cowboy action shoot out. We wish we would have known about it before. Take some bottled water and beer.........the only store is a little pricey~

We travelled from the UK to spend two weeks at Lajitas. We had never been to the Big Bend or indeed Texas before so did not know what to expect. We had an absolutely great time. The staff were very friendly and tried extremely hard to make sure we enjoyed ourselves, especially Karen the equestrian manager and John the general manager. We spent a lot of our time riding, either in the arena or out in the mountains, and we would highly recommend that as a activity.

We have read a number of critical reviews on tripadvisor about this resort, and can honestly say that we did not experience any of the problems that some people mentioned. We ate in the restuarant a couple of times and the food was of a very high standard and reasonably priced (bearing in mind it is a resort in the middle of nowhere). We stayed in one of the villas away from the main hotel, which was great and also allowed us to self-cater. The accommodation was spacious, clean and in good condition. It was incredibly quiet and had a great view. Yes it was hot, but if you go at the right time of year it is not uncomfortable (and we are British!). Yes it is a long way from anywhere and certain things are more expensive, but that's the prcie you pay for going somewhere remote - and that's the whole charm. Admittedly there was an initial mix-up with our booking but it was resolved positively and the staff were extremely welcoming on arrival.

The whole area is stunning and incredibly peaceful and relaxing. There is loads to do at Lajitas and yet a real feeling of getting away from it all. Go - it is worth the journey.

Room Tip: Go for the Officers Quarters or one of the villas away from the main hotel. Discuss your requirement...

We punctuated our trip through the Big Bend Region with a stay at Lajitas. A great place to rest and relax, in luxury in contrast to the primative and remote surrounding area. The meals were delicous and expertly prepared. All of the staff seem to exsist only to make us feel welcome and make certain our wants and needs were met. We spent a great evening on the patio outside the Thirsty goat. A great place to take your wife after a camping trip in one of the Parks.

Room Tip: There are a veriety of rooms available. It is a luxury hotel, the upper end rooms are more luxurious...

Just got back from another stay at Lajitas, this is our 3rd year in a row. We love this place. The rooms are great, ....clean and spacious....the Restaurant, Octotillo, has great food too. The staff always goes out of their way to make everything perfect. We love touring around Big Bend National Park and this resort is the perfect place to stay. Already can not wait for our visit next year, you really can not go wrong making Lajitas your destination in the Big Bend area.

Room Tip: We celebrated our Wedding Anniversary on this last visit and the Henry Clay Suite was a perfect way...

We enjoyed our stay very much thanks to the hospitality of the staff and the perfect jumping off point of the hotel. We did a sunrise horseback ride to a wonderful spot and enjoyed breakfast burritos and mimosas. We hadn't ridden in years and Karen made it seem easy despite the seemingly rough terrian. John, the Lajitas property manager, was very interested in our comments about the property and was the perfect host. The pool was a great spot to relax and cool off in the afternoons and the surrounding scenery is just gorgeous.

Our only hiccup was with our reservation. We had reserved through the website which indicated there was availability in the Officers Quarters. When we arrived, that wasn't the case. We were given one of the condo apartments which was very comfortable but didn't have the view Officers Quarters. All in all, it ended up being fine but next time we'll call instead.

Room Tip: Call if you want a particular room
