Owner description: This is a truly unique and popular location as the Lighthouse sits on the southernmost point in Norway. In addition to the lighthouse the site also includes a restaurant, museums, exhibitions, shops, cinema and an appartment for rent to guests. It`s the third largest tourist attraction in Southern Norway.

Even though i am a norwegian it is always like the first time when i go to places like this. the scenery is wonderful, it is a panoramic view and a perfect daytrip from Kristiansand or Stavanger, or just a stop on the road.

I´ve visited the lighthouse many times earlier, but it still manage to surprise me how beautiful it is here.

This time we came in February, and for the first time we stayed overnight! We rented the lighthouse keeper apartment, and arrived on a beautiful calm sunny day. Spring was in the air, and the children where all over the place hunting for treasures and chasing each other in the tunnels and caves in the area around the lighthouse.

They where really exited about staying the night, and in the evening we went out again capturing the beautiful sunset. Also seeing the light from the lighthouse in the dark night is a memory the children keep as a special memory.

In the gift shop you can buy all sorts of maritime high quality souvenirs and gifts. The cafe in the mountain hall (open in weekends even in February) sells delicious sandwiches made from home baked bread based on a recipe including salt water (!) and sea weed (!) from the sea by the lighthouse.

It is not very expensive to rent the lighthouse keeper apartment. You cater for your self, and the apartment has one large bedroom, bathroom, living room and dining room in addition to kitchen. There is even a dishwasher :). Free wifi for the guest makes it possible to "home-office" a few days if you need to. Nearest supermarket is in Spangereid, just a 10 minutes drive from the lighthouse.

If you just visit the lighthouse for the day you pay an entrance fee of NOK 50,-. This gives you access to the lighthouse tower, the exhibitions (art, craft etc.) and the mountain hall where there are more exhibitions, a cafe and different films showing. Well worth the price in my opinion. If you like walks, there are some 4-5 walking tours starting from the lighthouse area, ask in the gift shop for a map.

When we wake up the next morning a real winter storm had hit the lighthouse. No trace of spring anymore - and a totally different experience waited for us. In a good way - that is!

Visit it on a sunny day and enjoy the calm sea, climb the light-house, watch the traffic at sea, have a look at the original old wood-fired lighthouse, and visit the small museum in the rock itself. And do enjoy the local waffles with strawberry marmelade, sold during the summer from the small caravan at the carpark. You may also take a 1-2 hour circular hike along well marked paths in the bautiful nature around the light-house area. Starting close to the Fyrgryta restaurant.
Or you may visit in the automn or winther when the storms sends the sea-water in cascades over the rocks. It is a mighty sight where you can feel the strenght of nature. Just mind your safety.

Lindesnes Fyr is the most southern point on the mainland of Norway. I have visited the lighthouse several times and I am stunned every time. This is a place worth visiting; interesting history, fantastic view and landscape.
I have visited with my children also (age 2 and 4). They like to run around in the tunnels from the 2.world war and find it thrilling to climb to the top of the lighthouse tower.
The cafe serves simple but good tasting food. Don´t plan your dinner here - but ok for a soft drink and light snack. Do try the muffins! They are delicious....

You can combine visiting the lighthouse with a stop at "Barnas Dyrepark" (Childrens Zoo) or Sørlandsbadet (aqualand).
