L'Etang de la Fougeraie
Reviewed August 20, 2012

This small hidden treasure in the south of the Morvan gave us a marvelous holiday. The campsite is organised with respect for nature and privacy: there are only 60 campsites on 10 hectares. There is the beautiful view from the upper part over the lake and surrounding hills and the hidden places, down, behind the lake, surrounded by wild flowers and trees.

All necessary facilities are there: basic, but clean, warm and well functioning. The restaurant serves simple fresh dishes and on monday evenings the chef shows his Italian background with homemade "pizza à volonté" (during our stay even once with live music from a traditional local band)

The warm welcome and genuine hospitality from the young owners added extra value during our stay.

We spent our days swimming in this private lake (with special swimming zone for the little ones), fishing, walking, visiting the pittoresque villages in the neighbourhood, Bribacte (Impressive!),...

The only disadvantage is the single location of the showers, toilets, sinks... in the highest part of the camping: a daily extra climbing exercise for every sanitary visit :) .

As you could read, we enjoyed our sunny holiday and recommend you to try this relaxing nature experience in a friendly welcome environment!

First of all: the staff was very friendly and helpful and the owner speaks English quite well, which is a bonus.
But...we booked a fully equipped tent and we expected it to be okay. We're used to Tentsetters tents, possibly comparable to EuroCamp tents which supply a very high standard sort of tent. We expected this tent to be similar. However....the tent did not live up to its expectations for the following reasons: it was not clean, it had a 'shabby' feeling to it and the worst bit: we had pets, namely: mice. The whole night they kept us awake, going through all our stuff and food (yuk) and in the morning there were mice droppings everywhere! Not very hygenic at all. Especially when you are camping with little children, we would not recommend to rent a tent like this.
The showers were clean, but closed in the afternoon and the water was way too hot! You could make tea with the shower water and I wasn't able to wash my hair properly because I burnt my skin while trying.
The toilets were clean most of the time. Not very comfortable. No toilet seat.
The campsite itself was okay. Very nicely located in the hills, near a little lake (for swimming and fishing) and with a lovely view. If you have little children, mind you there is hardly anything to do in the surroundings. No castles to visit, or museums, or nice little villages where you can shop. The closest thing worthwile: Autun (a 45 minute drive). If you like walking, we think this would be nice here, although some walks are very short.
When you like peace and quiet and are not afraid to go back to extremely basic, then this campsite might be something for you.
The restaurant serves decent meals. Not a very large and extended menu, but okay. Atmosphere is very pleasant and the cats are really lovely!

Room Tip: Bring your own tent or caravan. Or rent a cabin/chalet.
