“family hotel with a warm feeling”
Reviewed July 25, 2014 via mobile

We booked initially two nights at Hotel Berta to explore the Garda lake area before we should travel to our main holiday destination in Toscane. As the journey on the first day went so well, we decided not to book a overnight stay halfway our journey but travel directly to Italy. We called to Hotel Berta to ask if we could arrive one day earlier. WIthout any problem Paula fixed our hotelroom for a 3 night stay.
The hotelroom (with lovely lake view) was clean, the breakfast was good (even home made cake was served) and with any kind of question Paula or her son Alberto was helping us with good advices, especially for restaurants used by locals.
Improvement areas are the wifi availability and the matrasses. Wifi should be available everywhere in the hotel, but was only available in the lobby of the hotel and a small part of the restaurant.
My matrass was ready to be substituted (but luckily I slept very well).

Real vote 4. Very clean rooms, good treatment, good position. The swimming pool is a bit small but we have the lake just in front of the hotel. The real big Breakfast brought my mind backs home.
Nice one in deed

Excellent service, staff are jolly and extremely helpful! Good and ample breakfast. Rooms are clean with simple but nice decor and superb views of the Lake Garda. There are a few restaurants within walking distance so it is easy to find a place to eat in the evening. Alternatively, dinner is also available at the hotel against payment. They also have a very nice pool area which is ideal for families with young children who would like to spend a relaxing afternoon.

The only downside is that although it is close to a bus stage, you often have to get a connecting bus in order to get to your destination. The bus service stops quite early in the evening so you really must plan ahead to make sure you do not miss the connection. Ideally one would rent a car as it would be a lot easier to get around the lake and visit all the beautiful places.

I would recommend this hotel.

We arrived with a Travelsphere tour of the Italian lakes on the 13th July at the Hotel Berta. There was considerable chaos on entering the Hotel as we all queued outside for half an hour waiting for a room key and tv remote control! There is one tiny antiquated lift to all floors which only accommodates one person and one suitcase so it took a very long time for everyone to reach their rooms. The rooms were clean, small and painted a strange green colour which made us feel we were in a school dormitory or sanitorium. We had a small balcony but it was above the kitchen so we constantly heard the sounds of meat being battered into as thin as possible a strip to serve that evening (the meat at every meal was indiscernable - was it chicken/pork/ veal - not sure!). The TV only has one English channel. The shower door barely opened and closed and was falling off its hinges. Also beware the midges - we were bitten all night.

The real shock came on our first morning at the hotel. Whilst we were eating our breakfast our rucksack (with camera, phone, coats etc) was stolen from the hook on the chair I was sitting on and never re-appeared despite us asking the staff, people we were with, the tour guide etce etc. The staff were unbelievably unhelpful and rude. When I asked if we could contact the police to make a claim for my insurance they laughed in my face. Our Tour Guide also found it very funny and laughed and joked in Italian about us "English" etc etc The laugh was soon wiped off their faces when they realised I spoke Italian and had understood their mocking off me and the situation and obviously this is an inside job - nicking peoples bags whilst they eat in the restaurant. The staff push past you rudely, knocking into you and helping themselves at the same time. I insisted the Tour Guide took me in a taxi to the local police station to report the crime as I was so angry with their attitude. This meant the rest of the stay was ruined. I actually wanted to leave that day but because we were on a Travelsphere organised coach tour we couldn't. I was quite frightened to stay here - the Romanian Manageress and the owner and her husband are quite frankly disgusting and have no comprehension of what the Service Industry is. There were so many complaint forms being given out each morning that I do not know how Travelsphere could recommend this to anyone. Another quick example of the disgusting staff attitude - an Indian couple who are vegetarian were given chunks of bacon in their vegetable soup which they had started to eat without realising. The waitress had a stand up row for 15 minutes in the restaurant over this shouting that she had not made the soup so it wasn't her fault.....
The bar is never attended and does not sell Diet Coke and nothing listed on the snacks menu was available. Price for a coke is about 3 Euros. They do not accept credit cards for your bar tab - instead the Romanian shouts at you on your last evening to pay cash - there is no itemised bill just a piece of paper with figures scribbled on it...

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Travelled with Travelsphere to this hotel for three night stay. The food was poor quality and the portions were minute.
The 'manageress' had an unfortunate attitude that was quite confrontational so that you felt you should do as you were told. We were told what time to dine because it was better for the staff!
The location was not convenient.... we had to use public transport to get anywhere.
Our room however was adequate and beds clean and comfortable.
Definately would never stay there again because of the attitude of manageress and food.
