We stayed as part of a tour and were very pleased with the hotel. The staff were very nice, the rooms, clean, bright and airy with balconies - though we did end up with mossie bites. The evening meals, taken as a group were very good.

We used this hotel as a base when attending two opera performances in nearby Verona. The train and bus station was only a few meters away, and you could walk to downtown in 10 minutes. The service was excellent, and the breakfast was obviously improved compared to previous reviews - but don't be late for breakfast or you will get some very haaardboiled (!) eggs that have turned green inside from being on the heater all morning. Also, the hotel rates itself as a 4-star property, but then to use simple plastic glasses in the room does not fit in.
The pool is nice, but with a very narrow sundeck sandwiched in around the corner. The 2 roof terraces are rather OK.

Dear Guests,

we thank you for spending a few words about our hotel.
Please note that our breakfast buffet is open from 07am to 10am, but clearly you can think of to get in the breakfast room at 10a, (at the end of the service) and find the same variety and choice that there is from the beginning.

The assignment of the stars of the hotels, is not determined based of plastic glasses ...: In the fridge of the rooms are " throwaway " as a matter of hygiene and safety.

Regarding the solarium, we must say that in addition to space near the pool, there is also a terrace on the first floor (up the stairs near the swimming pool).
The two terraces on the third and fourth floors are suitable for relax and enjoy a wonderful view of the lake.

Best regards

This is an excellent place to stay if you are visiting lovely lake Gada. It has recently been refurbished and the main rooms and bedrooms are lovely. The aircon works well in the bedrooms which was essential as we had a heatwave at the time. Good free wifi throughout the hotel. The Meals were all very good and the continental breakfast has a good selection. The staff were great, all very friendly and helpful. The rooms have a small fridge but no tea/coffee making facilities so best take a portable kettle if you like a hot drink in your room. The room TV had the BBC World Service available. The swimming pool is lovely (don't understand why there are some negative comments) and there are loungers next to it. You can go onto the roof of the hotel to sit and enjoy the lovely view of the lake with your drinks. There is a building being built next door but it was quiet while we were there.
The hotel is a couple of minutes walk to the station and a few shops, and around fifteen minutes gentle walk to the lake, restaurants and shops. Be aware of the 'coperto' (cover charge) of €2+ pp at the restaurants next to the lake (not necessarily mentioned in the menu). We had a lovely dinner at the Alessi restaurant (part of the Alessi Hotel) just off one of the squares (near the Angel of Mercy statue) for €15 for three courses and no coperto. Recommend a visit to Bordelino and Isle de Gada, both by boat from Desenzano.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor, but don't know whether our room was typical.

We stayed here last weekend, the hotel is very near the train station, which was nice, and the town is only short walk away. Very nice rooms, good breakfast, nice owners. Previous reviews mention AC, this was not a problem, our room was lovely and cool at all times.
The only let down is a size of the pool, and very few sun loungers. Everything is cramped in a very small outside space, so weather you are a smoker or not, you cannot get away from others smoking right in your face. We did order 2 cocktails, G&T was ok, Pina Colada tasted powdery and weird. Did not drink it, but still got charged for it. Considering we paid 150euro for 1 night, we would have liked a proper swimming pool with proper outdoor space.

I have just returned from Hotel Desenzano, - Few hotels in Lake Garda can surely be as welcoming and friendly, provide great (local produce) food, and from experience this is a wonderful hotel, with staff and facilities.

The standard from the staff was professional and really friendly.

The swimming pool at the hotel ......was great - after 36 degrees heat , a real treat!

Above all I want to thank the . wonderfulderful Senora, who runs this fab hotel, along with her wonderful family and great staff.

Breakfast at this hotel - superb - boiled eggs, sausages - the best rolls, cereals, yogs, cheeses, meats, ev erything and more - HOT ROLLS - HOT ALMOND ROLLS - probably for myself the best!!!

There is only one Hotel Desenzano

After reading a few of the negative reviews about this hotel I feel I must give our view.We have just returned from a group trip with Great Rail. Incidentally the derelict building next door has now gone.
My husband & I have stayed in many 4* & 5* hotels and the thing to remember that this hotel is probably what the Brits would describe as 3* mainly due to not having restaurant food all day. As the owner says in a previous reply you can choose a 5* hotel but will pay double the price.
Everywhere is extremly clean with a very friendly staff .. all of them...who are more than welcome to help with any problems. The reception area is welcoming with sofa's and a comfortable area to sit. The bedrooms were clean with enormous beds. The bathrooms were cleaned everyday with toiletries and towels refreshed.... not always found in 3* hotels in Britain. The air con came on about teatime and went off some time during the night. I assume it will be left on longer during the hot summer months. Our room was on the first floor and overlooked the pool which was great.
There is a roof top terrace with wonderful views over Desenzano, the lake and the Alps. The hotel is also just across the road from the railway station with a short walk down to the lake. There is a climb back up the hill but a bus runs every 30 mins for €1.
As for food .. oh dear the B|rits do let us down wanting English breakfasts and then chips with everything don't they? So no hot breakfasts but my goodness there was loads of everything else. Fruit juices .. loads of choices of teas and coffee, choice of cereals, breads, toast, rolls, croissants, brioche, jams, marmalades, cheese spreads, biscuits... so much choice in fact. The staff even went and made us decaffeinated coffee. Ham and cheese was fine .. just what you would expect in a Continental breakfast.
Dinner doesn't normally have potatoes .. we were in Italy after all! .. except for the first night on the buffet and one night we had an enormous jacket potato. The first course is a choice of (large bowl) of soup complete with bread rolls and croutons or a pasta dish, then a choice of a meat or fish dish usually accompanied by a hot vegetable and a table buffet of salad. Followed by dessert and coffee. Not being enormous eaters we found it more than enough to be honest. The fish dishes incidentally were beautiful...
One suggestion I would like to make to the hotel is that they keep 'alcohol free' beers in the bar as many other hotels do. Not everyone drinks alcohol and they don't always want to drink sweet drinks such as coke or orange juice all the time.

How can you have a hotel that only provides dinner that has been pre-ordered either 1 or 2 nights before, from a choice of 2. It was mass catering on a not very grand scale. It was bland, tasteless and very un -Italian If you were to be stuck in the hotel there was not even the possibility of a bread roll. Breakfast was cereals, ( limited choice ) toast, roll or brioche with plastic ham and/or cheese.
Dinner provided salad with roast beef, nothing else???
The balconies are shared, so if you happen to have a smoker next door you have to retreat to your room with the door closed.
The air conditioning was rationed to approx 9.00pm to 2.30 am. The advice was to keep windows closed in case of theft, so there was no alternative other than hot nights.

Dear Mr. "Morgan" (room 226 COMFORT, recently renovated) travelling with a group, how could we forget you and your nice lady.
First point, you have travelled in groups so the conditions are different for the groups as much as prices, compared to individuals.
In our hotel, the restaurant service is only for groups and meeting. We serve just first quality products.
The ham we serve is PARMACOTTO, one of the best hams in all Italy, and the cheese is posed on iced plattforms in order to keep it fresh as when just taken from the fridge.
As concerns “the limited choice toast”, as you wrote, we serve 3 different breads, 5 types of croissant, 7 kinds of different cereals, syrup-fruits, pine-apple and orange juices, yogurt, hot-chocolate, 20 kinds hot teas, marmelade and nutella, 6-7 several biscuits, fresh fruit.
Dinner wasn’t absolutely just a simple salad and roast-beef, as you wrote on trip-advisor, and you perfectly know this, you aren’t correct by informing people and our possible future clients with false and fake informations, infact we will write to the management of TRIP ADVISOR because we don’t agree with false informations, we can accept real and true criticals.
Our balconies are divided one to the other by a nice fioriera with inside 3 different plants, what do you suggest, I can’t forbid people smoke outside.
We would like to specify that during your weekly stay, it was raining often and many of your journey’s mates, they were asking even for the heating system, because outside temperature was quite low, in the evening-night was exactly 11 celsius degrees.
The time table of the air-conditioning isn’t real, do you have a watch that’s working ??
The advise to keep closed the sliding door of your balcony wasn’t referred to the theft risk but was referred to the air condition system, infact with open door it wouldn’t work at all.
Our one and only kind and honest suggest for you, is to travel in the future as an individuals with your wife, and not inside of a group of people.
Kind Regards
Hotel Desenzano
