“Villa Rosa Hotel”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

A fabulous 50th present from my gorgeous wife to a place I have wanted to visit for many years. The hotel itself is well furnished and appointed though beware of some of the balcony rooms as our first one overlooked the carpark!!. That said, we were quickly moved to a lake view room. We ate in the Rose & Sappori restaurant on the last night and the food was amazing and beautifully presented, real live fine dining!!

We would also recommend the Desenzino Pizzeria directly across the road (it's not just pizza's) as the octopus dish was fabulous. Anything to complain about, just the weather last friday as it literally poured down all day but will definitely be back, probably to stay in Garda as we went for the day and it is almost like a little Venice (without the canals)

Room Tip: Only the rooms at the front have a genuine lake view

This trip was a surprise 50th Birthday treat for me, and what a treat. A beautiful hotel tastefully furnished. The location is perfect, a 10 minute gentle stroll into Desanzano itself. Our reservation was for half board and the amazing Rose&Sapori restaurant exceeded both our expectations. All dishes were freshly cooked and the presentation was great. The waiting staff were very informative around the menu and the wine list. I had surprises for my Birthday of fruit platters from the hotel and a beautifully hand made Birthday cake.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone and if you stay there make sure you make several reservation at the Rose&Sapori restaurant. You won't be dissappointed!!!!

Room Tip: Main lake view rooms overlook the road which is not too noisy but all rooms are double glazed.

Traveling with a colleague along the A4, we were looking for an easy place to access near lake Garda. The Villa Rosa was quite elegant, reception was prompt and courteous. It was recommended that we eat at the hotel restaurant, and we had a terrific meal there. (I would HIGHLY recommend the Costa Ripa "Palm Argentina" vino dolce with dessert...an outstanding value and wine). My room was on the front corner of the hotel and had a small patio with a view of the lake - exactly what you'd want. There was a nice pool below with a few people lounging on the deck. The room itself was a little tight, but reasonable by European standards. The stay was restful and we had the opportunity to walk thru the small town and experience the lake-side lifestyle. The breakfast buffet was excellent, with plenty to choose from and service was terrific outside on the deck. I wish I had another day or two to enjoy my stay there, but maybe next time. ...

Room Tip: ask for a lakeside view.

We are glad we chose this hotel, as it was everything we wanted.
We flew into Verona, picked up our hire car and drove direct to the hotel. On our arrival we were met by the hotel staff who from the outset were polite and helpful and not intrusive. Our first impression of the hotel was exactly what we had seen and read in all the reviews and brochures. A good start.
The room we had was first class, very clean and comfortable. The air temprature outside for most of our stay was into the late 20's early 30's and the evenings were muggy but the air conditioning was on 24 hours which was excellent. The room was cleaned every day, the bedding and towels were changed every day which we thought was excellent. The bathroom was big enough, airy and clean. So all in all the accomodation was well up to standard and no complaints there.
Breakfast was good, which catered for all tastes, and in our case, we ate ours out on the front terrace over looking the lake which was so relaxing that we spent some time relaxing before we headed out onto the manic roads.
The hotel was far enough out of the town to be quiet but close enough for us to walk in at night for our evening meal.
Desenzano is lovely picturesque town. There are plenty of places to eat out at, and all at reasonable prices although we found drinks a little bit on the expensive side.
One thing that annoyed us were the musicians and flower sellers that persisted on coming around in the evening whilst we were sat outside having our meal. I found a firm but polite "No thanks" with a smile was sufficient and did not provoke any adverse reaction.
What we did like about Desenzano, was the absence of the yob culture, there were plenty of young folk out and about but getting drunk and preforming appeared to the the last thing on their minds, which made walking about very relaxing and all in all we felt very safe which was excellent.
What to do and see away from Desenzano. We visited most of the major towns around the lake, and every one was a little gem. We traveled around by car, and as to be expected Italian drivers are not backward in coming forwards, especially the motor cyclists, so be warned use your mirrors all the time. Limone and Salo are lovely spots for a nice casual relaxing day with tremendous views of the lake and the eastern shore. A must is a trip to Malcesine which is on the eastern shore. A lovely little town, and once there a ride on the revolving cable car to the top of Monte Baldo is recomended. The views of the lake are stunning. There are a couple of cafes at the top, and the weather was excellent but remember the dangers of being on a mountain especially if you have young children.
Bardolino is also a lovely spot, very clean and a nice relaxing town to walk around with plenty of cafes and resteraunts. Sirmone is also a nice little place, at the end of a very thin strip of land sticking out into the lake. If you decide to visit, make sure you go early as the traffic ques build up very quickly and just adds to the frustration of looking for a parking spot, but that is to be expected as the whole area is one big tourist trap.
Now Venice is a worth while, but go early, and get the train. The train station is only a short walk from the hotel. We traveled on the local train but traveled first class, which is no where as expensive as you might imagine. Travel first class and you are guaranteed a seat, as the train get's very full with tourists and comuters. If you travel by train make sure you validate your tickets by using one of the little yellow machines on the platform before you board the train. If you don't the authorites will fine you for not doing so. You have been warned. Venice was fantastic, and it was worth the two hour train ride. We also went to Verona, and again this is a wonderful city full of history and culture. It is clean and easy to get around and like the majority of europe, most of the people in the service industry spoke decent English.
To sum up our stay, the hotel was excellent and can not be faulted and was a good place to base ourselves at for travelling around. Would we recommend this hotel? Yes.
Would we stay here again? Yes we would.

An outstanding hotel in location, facilities, cleanliness, service and above all-staff.
Travelling alone, I had booked 2 nights but owing to a sudden knee problem I had to have hospital treatment and due to immobility extended my stay for a further 2 days. I would have gladly stayed the week or more.
The hotel staff could not have been more helpful and met every need and were so resourceful when I was immobile.
Food-excellent.
Thank you to all the staff ,particularly Sara,William,Antonio,,Dino who were so helpful, attentive and friendly.
Antonio having to transport me from a taxi to my hotel room in a porter's trolley.
I look forward to returning to have a normal long stay. I recommend this hotel most highly.

The Villa Rosa is a small but delightful hotel on the shores of Lake Garda. The reception staff were very helpful and the room very comfortable with a lake view. The "Rose & Sapori " restaurant in the hotel is extremely good. Delicious food and great service.

We just returned from a 3 day stay at the Villa Rosa. As a family group of 7 with an age group span of 2 to 65, we can safely say the hotel would be suitable for people of all ages. The reception staff are to be commended for their continuous assistance on each and every instance were this was necessary. The rooms are very well kept and were indeed a pleasure to stay in...they are well lit and spacious with all the necessary amenities at hand. The hotel's location by the lakeside, proved to be an asset, especially for us on our first visit to Lake Garda.
The buffet breakfast spread was varied and ample to cater for various tastes; finally a well done to the chef at the restaurant .....our dinner was superb except for the price paid, which was on the high side.

All in all a positive experience and given the opportunity we would not hesitate to return.

Room Tip: we opted to take the South facing rooms.....much quieter an still well lit and airy.
