Chateau de Bonnemare
Ranked #1 of 1 Radepont B&B and Inns
Reviewed July 6, 2012

A beautiful, tranquil place to stay. We had a difficult journey (getting very lost in Rouen at Friday rush hour) but the tension quickly fell away on arrival at Bonnemare. We had the entire place to ourselves - it was as though we had stepped into the pages of an historical novel for the night, as owners of an amazing Chateau. The owners recommended a simple, local bistro for supper and afterwards we wandered around the lovely grounds.
We stayed in the Raoul de Bonnemare room on the ground floor which is the least historic of the rooms. For us this was the perfect blend of character with modern comforts. We saw the other rooms in the tour given to us the next day - these rooms are even more astounding and historical - like sleeping in the part of a stately home normally roped off. Worth mentioning that in every room there are lovely, sparkling clean and modern en suite facilities.
Breakfast was delicious and huge... But what really made our stay was the gentle friendliness and hospitality of the owners. We were treated to an extensive private tour and explanation of the history. We really appreciated the opportunity to dust off our French language skills without causing impatience.
All in all, a lovely stay - highly recommended.

There are moments in your life when something magical happens and you want to keep it secretively from all the others… that kind of moment was when we arrived at Chateau de Bonnemare. It was a beautiful drive through the countryside to get there, and once we arrived it was better yet. The place was astonishment, the buildings were imposing. The Bonnemare is being like a fairy tale we enjoyed the peaceful park and we felt a unique experience. The wonderful owner took time to guided us to the castle and the next day served us a fabulous breakfast

We loved the place and wished to have stayed longer. We will be back!!!

Pros: This was our favorite place in Normandy! We loved the setting--the chateau is gorgeous, the grounds are gorgeous, and the room took our breath away. It was just like staying in Napoleon's rooms at the Louvre--but cleaner. The breakfast is delicious--I have never had a better chocolate croissant in my life. The breakfast room is amazing as well--a big stone hall with a fireplace. The hosts are so kind and friendly, and we loved our tour of the cider press and chapel. The kids enjoyed wandering around in the park as well. Cons: Hmmm....none, really, beyond the obvious fact that you need a car to get here, and a car to go to any local towns or restaurants once you check into the hotel. They had two well-behaved dogs, and although they didn't seem to go up into the rooms, if you have allergies, this is worth noting.

What a pleasant surprise the arrival at the chateau proved to be. The fascade of the buildings is impressive. The guest accomodation is away from the road at the rear of the courtyard. The log fire was welcoming as was the manner if our host. The accomodation is spacious. The breakfast was in an ancient hall with a huge log fire. The food was delicious

We stayed at Bonnemare for four nights in July 2011. We had initially only planned for two but were blown away by the beauty of the place and the friendliness of the hosts. The rooms are like suites and the suites are like museums. The breakfast was the best of our whole 3 week trip.

The Chateau is owned and run by Sylvie and Alain who are very hospitable and caring hosts. The 16th century chateau is a joy to look at, and it is well worth exploring the building. The room we stayed in (as opposed to one of the suites) was large and high ceilinged, well equipped with a very large comfortable bed. The bedding was good quality including crisp cotton sheets and fluffy pillows. The bathroom was a delight, large, modern and airy. The walk in shower with body jets was massive with excellent water pressure, there were good toiletries available to use, a shaver socket that worked, hairdryer, towelling robes and slippers. The breakfast which was served in the Great Kitchen, a huge vaulted ceilinged room with flagstone floors, was scrumptious. A selection of home made jams, plenty of wonderful bread and croissants and fruit most of which came from the chateau's garden. The salon or sitting room is full of antique furniture and old paintings and other fascinating curios. The chateau is surrounded by 22 hectares of grounds and woodland and are a delight to walk through.
