Very awesome ruins! We looked at it from the outside as it was closed when we were walking by. Worth a look and to go inside if it is open.

If you’re in Volterra, it’s an obvious place to see. We had our tickets from the Archaeological Park that also gave admission to the Amphitheatre – but we were too late so we looked down into it from the high level path to the south. Wide vista views of the countryside as well as a bird’s eye view of the theatre.

Pretty impressive - pity you cannot really get up close! Hopefully the theatre will be used as such at some future time for concerts etc.

There are two choices here, firstly the Roman monuments are visible from the street and you can see the whole site without paying for entry, or secondly take a ticket and move around the site to read the boards that will explain to you what the ruins represent and their history. I recommend the later. There is and other dig site at the top of the town Parco Archaeologico. Buy a ticket at one and this ticket covers the entry to the other. Either way the story is fascinating.

Beautiful place and amazing history, lovely views and great photo opportunities. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Volterra, a short walk through the small streets and you are there. Everything is well sign posted too.
