We had a pass which allowed us to see all the Volterra sights within 72 hours so we gave this a whirl. There was a special exhibit which was moderately interesting.

Although I am not heavily into religious art, I could not fail to be impressed by many of the exhibits on display.

The city of Volterra is a treasure of art and history, but not only for its Etruscan masterpieces. If possible, during the city tour do not forget to spend an hour at this wonderful shrine of italian painting. It is a relatively small collection, but top quality. Among the many Italian museums of this kind, the Art Gallery of Volterra is distinguished by the splendor of the place, the display of paintings and, not the least, the quality and importance of the masterpieces.

If you like medieval and Renaissance painting do not miss this gallery. It is also in a wonderful building. You can also look behind the paintings because they are on easels and not attached to the ancient walls.

I like to spend money (actually, too much!) when it comes to art, especially for visiting museums and exhibitions. However, this museum is overpriced. You actually pay 8 euros for the single visit (you can also buy a cumulative ticket with other museum) which is too much with respect to what you can find inside.

Actually, the museum features work by Luca Signorelli and Rosso Fiorentino. Notable work, which does not stand for the price.
