In september 3 of us spent 2 weeks in Tuscany, based in Siena and Lucca and touring the surrounding areas. We visited various restaurants, many recommended by travel guides. At the end of our stay, out of all the restaurants we had tried, all 3 of us voted Ristorante Enoteca Del Duca in Volterra as our no. 1 eating experience. I suppose it helped that it was a lovely day but then so were most of the others. We had lunch and everything was just right: we sat at a big table in the shade in the very quiet and cheerful garden, the service was excellent, attentive but not pushy but the food (and the wine!) was really what made our day. We had the local cheeses, gnocchi with truffles and the most delicious pork we had aver tasted. The prices were similar to what we had been paying in Siena. If we ever end up in Volterra again we will go straight to Del Duca for lunch or dinner or both.
