In september 3 of us spent 2 weeks in Tuscany, based in Siena and Lucca and touring the surrounding areas. We visited various restaurants, many recommended by travel guides. At the end of our stay, out of all the restaurants we had tried, all 3 of us voted Ristorante Enoteca Del Duca in Volterra as our no. 1 eating experience. I suppose it helped that it was a lovely day but then so were most of the others. We had lunch and everything was just right: we sat at a big table in the shade in the very quiet and cheerful garden, the service was excellent, attentive but not pushy but the food (and the wine!) was really what made our day. We had the local cheeses, gnocchi with truffles and the most delicious pork we had aver tasted. The prices were similar to what we had been paying in Siena. If we ever end up in Volterra again we will go straight to Del Duca for lunch or dinner or both.

Our servers were helpful in selecting items from the menu and pointed out what was fresh and in season. The mushrooms were great on pasta and on steak. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender. The 50/50 Merlot blend Marcampo wine was very good.

We reserved a table in this restaurant although in the end it was not full (strange as there were many tourists in Volterra and this is one of the few with a large garden). It is slightly more expensive than other options, but the setting in the garden is great. Food is also served in a slower tempo than usual in Italy (which we wanted as we wanted to take our time).
Food was very good, though probably not the very best we had got in our week in Tuscany, but it was certainly worth the money (we had some dished with truffle ehich isof course always nice).
I can really recommend the restaurant as I do not think much can go wrong.

After a lot of research we decided to get married in the town hall of Volterra this year. Our wedding planner recommended a list of places to have the wedding breakfast in but said that Del Duca had something a little extra. We were thrilled with the service, food and atmosphere. We had planned to eat out on the terrace but ended up inside because of a torrential downpour predicted at 10pm, and I think this was a better idea anyway as the room is gorgeous. We designed our own menu with the chefs and it was brilliant, they even made a tiramisu specially for us (as it is my Mum's favourite) and it was outstanding.
When we went for a tasting prior to the wedding we had spaghetti with truffles - it was sublime!
Our guests have also said that it is one of the best wedding meals they have had.
