My wife and I spent 4 nights here in a double with an ensuite bathroom. The hotel is a short 5-10 minute uphill (it's not that bad) walk to the Volterra city walls. The room was very spacious and clean with a refrigerator. Ours did not work, but the kind owner offered to let us use the refrigerator downstairs for our drinks and food. The breakfast was quite good and available from 8-10am. The owner was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. While her English was limited, we had no problem communicating.
Some tips for the area...there is a bar next door that serves basic food, cocktails, wine, beer, and coffee. Across from it is a very nice Conad grocery store with all your needs. For a nice local taste, get the salame toscano and some pecorino cheese. Also be aware that the city of Volterra in general pretty much closes its doors by 8-9pm except for a few restaurants.
