Volterra is a cold place in winter and getting there will help you thaw after walking around this beautiful Etruscan town. The place is a self-service at lunch and develops into a full restaurant at dinner and I regret to be able to report only on the self-service.

The first thing that you notice is the friendliness of the staff: they greet you on the threshold as if meeting you was an incredible boon. You pick up your tray and file past an wide variety of pasta, stew, chicken, and desserts.

All the food is very well prepared and has the typical flavor of Tuscan cuisine, simple and natural.

If you are a celiac they are well prepared to advise you on gluten-free food so you can have a safe and tasty meal.

The price for the self-service is very reasonable, especially vis-à-vis the high quality of the food.

As said, the atmosphere is very warm in all sense and there are several inner rooms where a substantial party can be accommodated without problems.

They were so happy to have our party that the coffee was on the house. Definitely a place to return to again and again.

We went to this restaurant on a walking holiday around the hilltop villages, and had a very good meal, with excellent service, and wine recommendation. My wife had the mixed grilled fish, which was superb. We were very pleased by the bill at the end of the evening too

Can't understand why this cafe (not really a restaurant) is ranked #3 in Volterra. Had lunch there in early October 2012 (E19 for two people - main course, wine & coffee). Took a while to realise it was self service! Fair selection of food and good helpings which were plated up, then heated in microwave. Sadly ours was only warm though, which may be why we both felt a bit delicate for the rest of the day. Black coffee was only E1.50 but was the worst we had during the whole holiday, and that includes Pisa Airport (what a dump!) Volterra is magnificent however, so don't let this food review put you off visiting the town.

We liked this restaurant so much that we went back on the second night of our stay in Volterra. The menu features local produce and has a wide choice including some of the most imaginative and well-executed vegetarian dishes that I have ever had. There is plenty for meat eaters as well. There is also a very good wine list and the service is friendly. Highly recommended!

A waiter in our hotel recommended this restaurant, It was so good we had lunch one day and dinner the next.
I had wild boar and my wife had gnocchi, fabulous!
They are very proud of where their ingredients come from, all of the local suppliers are listed on your placemat.
You always know if a restaurant or bar is good if its full of locals, which this was.

Fresh food at a great price and good service. We highly recommended it.
