There are VERY few hotels in Viterbo conveniently located near the historic center (not counting the two or three bed and breakfast places in the Medieval Quarter of Via San Pellegrino). The Hotel Tuscia is probably the best located for proximity to public transportation. I recommend it for convenience and price. It is located within the walls of the old city, and can be reached on foot from the following landmarks: Porta Fiorentina Gate (300 yards); Porta Fiorentina train station (750 yards); bus stop to Tarquinia, Tuscania, Montefiascone, Bolsena (500 yards); bus stop to Bagnaia/Villa Lante (200 yards); Piazza della Rocca (150 yards); Piazza dei Caduti (aka Piazza del Sacrario): 100 yards; Piazza del Plebiscito: 300 yards; Cathedral/Palazzo Papale: 700 yards; COTRAL bus depot at Localita' Riello: 1500 yards. It is a business-oriented hotel with 48 rooms and private facilities. A mediocre "all you can eat" breakfast is served from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. (grocery-quality items). In the rooms, you will hear the rumble of cars driving along Via Cairoli (even from the rooms in the back). The rooms, which are rather small but adequate, are not well sound-proofed. Hotel prices are very moderate, making it a good value for the money. Hotel staff are very friendly, particularly the pretty lady who prepares breakfast. There is an internet point in the lobby which can be used free of charge (useful to check train and bus schedules, opening hours of city landmarks and museums, as well as to catch up on the international news). NOTE: For couples seeking a "romantic" venue, choose one of the B/Bs in the Via San Pellegrino Distict (near Piazza San Carluccio). These B/Bs are about 800 yards from the Porta Romana train station (Trenitalia trains to Rome).

Clean but generic hotel inside the old city walls. Reminded me of something like a Motel 6 or a Holiday Inn Express back in the U.S. Our small room faced the street and did have a balcony but the only shutter was a heavy metal one that rolled down! Kind of creepy. Modern, tiny bathroom. Knock-off Ikea type furniture. Bed was only moderately comfortable. The TV worked as well as the free wi fi. The front desk people often did not speak English and tried to direct us to a wrong site-seeing location even though we specifically pointed out what we wanted to see on a map. There is a complimentary breakfast, but just cold cereal and yogurt. Fine if you're just staying a night but nothing special.

We had a wonderfull stay, the staff was very friendly and tried to help us as ùuch as possible even tough our italian is not that good.

Our car broke down and they helped us to find solutions for us, even tough it was a national holliday over there.

This must have been one of our geatest stays ever in an hotel, with clean rooms, nice stay and a sufficient breakfast.

surely to recommend, and not expensive at all!

The rooms were clean. I had satellite TV, but my friend's room did not. It was a short walk to train station and down town. Not real fancy, but for the price fine. I speak a little Italian, and they were very helpful. Free internet hot spot.

We stayed at the Tuscia for 2 nights and it was very pleasant. The place was clean, most of the hotel staff friendly and helpful and they had a decent breakfast buffet (continental breakfast type). During a full week in Italy, it was the only place that had internet and a computer that you could use free of charge. It was in a good location - just a short walk up from one of the piazzas. It was a decent hike from the train station and a little rough on the luggage wheels on the cobblestone roads, but not bad. Maybe 15 minutes tops. I'd definitely stay there again.

We stayed four nights at the Tuscia and were very pleased with all aspects of the hotel. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The hotel and its rooms are kept very clean and provide everything an American traveler would what. The hotel's location, within the walls of the center of Viterbo, puts all the sites within easy walking distance. We will stay at the Tuscia whenever we are in the region.

We stayed at the hotel for one night in October 2007. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and clean with a small balcony overlooking the narrow street outside. The hotel is located a ten minutes' walk from the Palazzo dei Papi and the Cathedral. The hotel has a private garage just around the corner.
There is a roof terrace with a splendid view of the ancient city.
A good place to stay for exploring Viterbo and good value for money.
