We spent at Abaton one week. It is hard to summarize our experience in few words. Aldo has created a microcosm where everything is perfect and designed to please the guest. The rooms are essential but with all comforts. Bed linen, towels, whites are always clean and scented. The view from the room is stunning. To stay at Abaton is a real experience it is not only a place where to sleep, but is a place where to relax and to take a rest during the day. Of course Villasimius has a lot of beautiful beaches, we visited a lot of them but during the day we spent at Abaton a couple of hours to relax and enjoy the view.
Every day the breakfast was amazing, with a lot of local food and some very good home made jams.
Aldo every day suggested us where to go, which beaches were better, and above all where to have dinner! he suggested us a lot of nice place where we had great food.
I highly recommend Abaton, we can not wait to be there for another wonderfull holiday

We stayed at Relais Abaton for 5 nights as the last stop on our honeymoon, and our first visit to the island of Sardinia.

The venue is a extremely stylish B&B, and the gracious owner, Aldo, has really thought about every last detail when it comes to the layout and aesthetics of the room. In terms of furnishings and finish, this is as good as anywhere I have come across in the world.

The room was extremely comfortable, and offered a good night's sleep. Having a separate shower room from the bathroom was smart and the dual shower heads is a good touch. There's plenty of the space in the wardrobe, a nice hifi system (complete with selection of CDs), Nespresso machine and well stocked and reasonably priced mini-bar. Best of all, they offer a complimentary laundry service - this was much needed having spent the previous 2 weeks in Italy - and the clothes were washed and pressed on the same day.

The Relais Abaton is located just outside the town (and resort) of Villasimius, which has plenty of restaurants to choose from. It is also handily located from scores of lovely beaches - the nearest of which Porto Giunco is almost Caribbean like in the colour of the sand and the water. Aldo will happily suggest a new beach in the area to explore each day of your visit. Our favourite was Cala Sinzias. A word of note - you will need a car to explore the surrounding areas.

Aldo was also happy to help select a local restaurant for dinner as well as make a booking for you. He was also very keen to make sure you try Sardinian specific delicacies as there are a number of unique dishes from traditional Italian cuisine. Being an island, a lot of these are seafood which was a challenge for me being vegetarian. There was definitely less choice of antipasti compared to the mainland, but you'd get by with the primi options.

Breakfast was also a daily treat. First up, you have the stunning views over the coastline to greet you when you open up the shutters. Then, you are presented with a fantastic choice of breakfast options: fresh fruits, local cheese and meat cuts, home made jams, frittatas and cakes made daily.

Aldo is such a charming and attentive host - he genuinely wants to enjoy your stay as well as build an impression of the real Sardinia. Every day, he would draw us maps to the beach or restaurants and meticulously explain the directions. One evening, at arriving at the restaurant for dinner, we presented with a bottle of Moët courtesy of Aldo. On another evening, we were invited to join him and the other guest to sample the local liquor (again home made), Mirto. You get the feeling Aldo doesn't run this as a commercial venture, but treats this as a passionate hobby.

I would highly recommend this venue, as a way of exploring the south east of Sardinia and if you want the independence from the many sprawling hotels located on the island.

Where to begin? There have been many things written about Aldo Madea and Relais Abaton, and they are all true! Aldo has provided everything you could ever want or even think of while you are staying at his fantastic Relais. The room was perfect....very simple, beautiful architecture. The views out of the room were breathtaking. The full moon rose up over the port while we were there. To be honest, the only unfortunate thing about our stay was the weather - cloudy, super windy and very cold, which Aldo told us was very rare for the last week of May. Regardless of the weather, Aldo kept us busy, directing us to Costa Rei and one day we drove to Nora, to the beautiful Roman ruins there. Each day, Aldo would make us a map directing us to a different restaurant, each of them delicious and interesting to try.
The staff at the Relais were fantastic - Alessandra, who served us the huge and delicious breakfast every morning, incredible tomatoes, prosciutto, hams, ricotta, different cheeses, yogurt, juices, cakes made by Alessandra's Nonna, jams and marmalades made by Aldo, cereal, fresh fruit, on and on....and Lucia, who was the cleaning supervisor...she even washed and ironed our clothes beyond perfection!
Aldo's caring and incredible love for his house which is above the three rooms is amazing. His architect was very clever in how he tucked these rooms below the house. From the caps that we received to the music available, the treats in the refrigerator, the wonderful linen sheets, beautiful robes, everything was perfection.
We were very lucky to stay at Relais Abaton, and to get to know Aldo was a special treat.
Hope we can return to stay when it's really warm and enjoy those gorgeous beaches!
