The restaurant looks modest from the road, but don't be fooled, it is delightfully decorated in a sylvan setting on the edge of Viareggio (not easy to find but well worth the effort - it's the top rated restaurant for very good reasons). This is a restaurant for italians, not tourists (which makes it all the more appealing), so some knowledge is necessary to make sense of the menu, the wine list, not to mention ordering and discussing the food. Being on the coast, fish plays a major part in the menu. We ate there on two occasions and both times the meals were delicious [our stand out dishes were the insalata di mare, the branzino, the pennette al sugo di granchio and the vitello. The staff were friendly and efficient and the place was spotless. The wine list gave a good choice, our meals were not expensive and the place was packed with locals (no better recommendation, but eat early!). The visitor photos here on TA give an excellent sense of its ambiance. If you are in the area, don't miss it....we can't wait to return this year.
