Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte
Ranked #2 of 51 Hotels in Viareggio
Certificate of Excellence

We arrived at the Principe di Piemonte from a terrible stay elsewhere – what a world of difference!! Here, we were greeted by friendly and professional staff who were most responsive to our needs. We were provided a marvellous room with an outstanding view of the beach and ocean. Dinner was excellent, as was the breakfast buffet. I would stay here again without any hesitation. Highly recommended.

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights over Easter. The rooms were very nice and and clean, and there was room service twice a day. The staff are very kind and quick to respond to any requests. Breakfast is great with freshly baked croissants, freshly squeezed orange juice, and coffee of choice made to order. The rooftop heated swimming pool was great, as it was still too cold to enjoy the sea. The location of the hotel is good with many restaurants and bars in the vicinity along the boardwalk.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a single non-sound-proof door between adjacent suites. If you have neighbors, you wi...

Stayed here 3 nights for a business meeting that was held in the hotel in the off season. It's across the street from the beach, and looking out the other side you see the mountains. The hotel has retained many original features, with huge high ceilings, fancy light fixtures, large windows. The different guest rooms are decorated in different styles, mine was Art Deco. The room was snug, but had high ceilings and a large window, with a small entry foyer. The bathroom was long and narrow, with marble floor, wall tiles, and sink. For a grand hotel, though, the shower was rather small. The buffet meals were very good, and the employees were all very friendly.

Room Tip: There is a lot of traffic noise, so if you want to keep your windows open, ask for a room away from...

We stayed in the hotel in Viareggio in Juni 2012.
The rooms were lovely, the bathroom nice. We liked the view from our room and from the pool on the top floor of the hotel.
The service was nice and helpful and did a really good job (reception, pool, concierge).
We would really love to go back, but we thought that the hotel was horribly overpriced. Besides the not so cheap room rate you have to add the money for the beach. Adding both together you get a far better value for money at a lot of Italian beach hotels.
The value-for-money-thing goes on in the restaurant, which is good, but very expensive in relation to all the other Viareggio- (and even the Forte dei Marmi-) restaurants.

Room Tip: We had a room to the sea. There was a street in front of the hotel, but we didn´t hear any noise.

We arrived at 7pm with reservation , but the room was not ready. The third bed was a camp bed. The room is elegant, but any attempt of temperature regulation failed.... Too warm (25°C) for Christmas time. Staff was not warm, as you could expect. Breakfast pleanty

Lovely old-school building in a great location across from the beach about a mile from downtown VIareggio. There's a bit of a disconnect if you are assigned one of the renovated rooms which have been done in a minimalistic modern style, with platform bed (that is in fact very comfortable) and all white decor. We visited in January so the one-star Michelin restaurant was not open, and we were told that it would not open until May. Only breakfast was available at the hotel. Luckily there are several good restaurants a short walk away. Service is okay - we had a problem with lack of internet for one day - but it eventually got fixed, and as there was no charge for internet use it's difficult to complain about that.

Room Tip: There is a choice of more traditionally decorated rooms.

No wonder that Michelangelo loved this area where he stayed for months to select his marble for his famous statues. The Tuscan coast line, Versilia, is as beautiful as the french riviera Cote d'Azur and I specially like to stay there during the winter months, when it's less crowded and less expensive.
I've stayed in different hotels, but Principe di Piemonte in Viareggio is outstanding and is now my only choice.
The rooms are gorgeous, the restaurant is very good and the beautiful 'veranda' is my favourite place to sit and read the newspaper, have an afternoon coffee or a Prosecco before dinner (ask for the Prosecco Merotto). A huge buffet goes free with the aperitif! The hotel service is superb: The staff is professional, nice and never stiff and mechanic. There's definitely a very capable manager behind this!
I very much appreciate the upgrading to a room facing the ocean, which the hotel offers in case of not beeing fully booked. With the wellness-center, the open-air pool with heated water, the fitness room, the restaurant, the bar, you could stay without ever leaving the hotel, and your vacation/relax would be perfect, but I always try to take a tour up into the Carrara mountains where Michelangelo got his marble.
Thank you, Principe....I'll be back next winter
