The Foresteria is a wonderful place to stay if you're looking for the traditional Italian feel. Situated in the small hamlet of Mustonate within easy reach of both Varese town and Milan city, both worth a visit. We had a lovely time playing golf, gliding and horse riding. We had a the best view of the lake and the mountains to wake up to.......we will return and strongly recommend!!

A delightful place to stay for a country holiday on the edge of Varese. Comfortable well appointed rooms and nearby grappa bar and restaurant make for a relaxing time. Wonderful views and walks and the delight of watching horses in training and just hacking out. A place to while away many hours.

This is a really charming and stylish place that would make an excellent base for the forthcoming Milan Expo- it's a little like Portmeirion in the middle of Lombardy. Quiet, with very attractively-decorated and reasonably-priced mini B+B apartments. Nothing jars and there is an excellent (not cheap) restaurant in the little borgo (hamlet) as well as pretty little café built of steel and glass like a conservatory. If you're lucky you will see the jovial and hilariously-entertaining owner, Francesco, passing on one of his carriages.( I think he must be a friend of the Kennedy family as there was a portrait of the late Senator Robert Kennedy in my room). I highly recommend this oasis of peace and arcadian beauty in what is a rather overpopulated part of the world.

Room tip: I looked at several of the apartments and they all struck me as attractive

BEWITCHED BY MAGICAL MUSTONATE

These are the lodges in the unique hamlet of Mustonate, 3 km from Varese. Well signed and easy to find - you know you have arrived by the harmonious shades of terracotta, cream and pinks, the neat hedges, strip-mown fields, racehorses on a white-railed track, backdrop of Lake Varese, and the skyline of snow-capped pre-Alps. Collect your key from Susi at the Estate Office, surprisingly modern in design, where the welcome is friendly and helpful. It’s a unique opportunity to become part of the community as you take up residence in one of the Lodges. The phrase ‘small but perfectly formed’ comes to mind. There is an elegant living room, from where a staircase spirals upwards to a charming, light bedroom with a very comfortable bed; and a refreshingly modern bathroom. A well-stocked fridge, complimentary grappa, Wi-Fi, sheet of useful contacts, and logs by the fireplace complete the list. It’s simple but perfect – it’s Italian.

Room tip: No 47 for families or longer stays, No 36 or 38 for peace & quiet and wonderful views. All are good!

A wonderfull place in front of the Varese Lake, special for horse lovers. Nice attention and hospitality from the owner Francesco. Has also a very good resturant and fantastic place for eating breakfast. No doubts that Foresteria dei Piaceri Campestri is a great place to visit and stay near Milan.
