A UNESCO world heritage site. It has to be experienced with numerous chapels containing statues and frescoes leading up to the most exhillarating village above with spectacular views from the Alps to the vast sweep of the Pre- alps, valleys and lakes and plain.

“The View of a Lifetime”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2013

You go up this mountain and the view is so stunning! It's truly amazing. Though a little confusing, thanks to a local that was willing to help us out, we found our way to the top. We took a bus up to a tram and for 1 euro rode the tram up to the top. Then walked through an old Italian village still inhabited to find a wonderful view, good restaurants and some great sight-seeing. Don't be fooled -- walking down Sacro Monte is a trek. But breathtaking and beautiful and great exercise! We walked down the 2 kilometre hill, passing the old churches on the way. Caught the bus at the bottom back to the centre. It is a bit confusing, but once you do it once, it makes sense!
