Find time if you are near Milan to make a detour to dine at the most fabulous location in the Varese area - complete your Italian experience with dinner at the elegant Tana d’Orso restaurant. The dining rooms look over Lake Varese towards the mountains, and to stand on the terrace with a glass of chilled prosecco, watching the sun slide over the horizon, the light gracing the world like a benediction, is simply one of those perfect Italian moments. Francesco, the chef, creates sophisticated dishes in accordance with the Slow Food Organisation. The beautiful table settings compliment his skill and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. You’ll feel involved and included for the whole evening. Whatever you choose from the menu will be a success - prices are good - a treat though rather than an everyday occasion perhaps. Depends on your budget - I'd like to eat here every day!

I visited Tana d'Orso for the first time a few weeks after its opening in 2005. Since then I have also visited it several other times and I can not hide that I have a special tie with it because we have chosen the restaurant for our wedding party.
But do not misunderstand me, the fact that it can accommodate ceremonies does not preclude the relaxed and romantic atmosphere of the place.
The restaurant is located in the village of Mustonate, a few miles from the center of Varese, in a bucolic environment of woods and meadows. It wouldn't be enough a lot of pages to describe the village, and so we come back to dwell on the restaurant.
Since 2005 the restaurant has grown steadily to keep your tradition. The cuisine is Italian and the menu changes according to the season. The raw material are superior in quality. The chef has a great experience and training (I've read a few months ago on the local press that he was chosen to cook during the visit of the Italian president, Giorgio Napolitano, in Varese).
The prices are good (27 euros for the choice of two dishes and 37 euros for three. Excludes drinks, coffee and desserts).
Here I am at the dessert, it is unfortunately the only bitter point. (it's an oxymoron). In my humble opinion , the choice is too small and too simple if it is compared with the quality and inspiration of the main courses. The staff is friendly and prepared. Although the menu is mostly meat and fish I have always found a good option even if I am a vegetarian.
In the end, if you're in the neighborhood of Varese, I feel strongly recommend a visit to the village of Mustonate, and, in addition, a valuable meal at the restaurant.
