“Stunning villa in a beautiful location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at Villa Paola for 7 nights as part of a two week trip to Italy and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We chose this hotel due to the small number of rooms, the location and the stunning pictures which were on the website and we are glad we did. For the first three nights of our stay we were the only guests so it felt like we had rented a private villa, other guests then arrived throughout the week but at no point did it feel crowded as there is so much space you can always find somewhere to feel like you have the villa exclusively to yourselves. The rooms were beautiful, the breakfast lovely and the walk into Tropea was pleasant and only took around 15 minutes. That all said we did think that they could do a couple of things to make their guests feel like they are getting that extra personal touch that you would expect from a high end boutique hotel. It was the little things for us that were missing such as fresh fruit & water in your rooms and staff on hand to help with any questions you may have, we also felt that to have to pay for water in the hotel is a bit much considering the price you are paying for a room, in all other boutique hotels we have stayed in you at least get a bottle of water in your room a day - we wouldn't expect to have to pay for any. We would stay at the villa again if we visited Tropea and our comments may sound picky but when you pay as much for the accommodation as the villa charges it would be nice to have those little personal touches.

This hotel opened in 2011 and has just six rooms. It is also the owners home and therefore has something of a feel of a luxury (and very expensive) B&B. We stayed in early May 2012 and were their first guests of the season. Our room had a beautiful sea view and fabulous shower. It was also the comfiest bed I have ever slept in. Continental breakfast was fresh and delicious with great service. The pool was freezing but still made it in a couple of times and the views from the pool and the terraces were breathtaking. There is no restaurant in the hotel although you can order drinks (at a price!). The main issue - and really our only fault - with the hotel was the walk into town which whilst was only 10-15 minutes was down a dangerous road and was unpleasant - a taxi into town was €10. Perfect place for a restful stay.

Room Tip: Room 304 is their best room with views over the sea.

I was in this hotel in July 2011 with my husband for only one night, it is by far the best hotel in the area, It is perfect for a couple or couple of friends, very elegant the swimming pool is in marble, overlooking the sea, the green areas are very well looked after and the breakfast is rich, I remember in particular the variety of home made jams, made by the owner. We stayed one night only, I recommend it for a romantic weekend.
It is not in the centre of Tropea, but it is at a reasonable walking distance to the centre and the beach.
It was a bit expensive, but there is no comparison with the other hotels close by.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed quiet
