Prior to going I had heard the beach can be tough to get a spot on. We found this not to be the case at all. It gets crowded but not too crowded. Surprisingly the water is quite deep. Only a few steps in and you are in almost over your head. There was almost no current though and the high salinity makes it very easy to float. It was also fun to jump off the rocks with everyone else.

Having visited in July, there were large crowds. We rented chairs and an umbrella - there are several beach clubs available. I think it was about 20 Euros for three of us. The sand is very rough - not uncommon in Europe - so be sure to use beach shoes to protect your feet. Plus the sand is HOT! If you are staying in Tropea, you can walk down the stairs (about 30-40 meters) or drive but parking is a premium except at the beach clubs.

I love Tropea and visit every year when I come to Italy, but it is way too busy and overcrowded in August. The umbrellas and sun beds are put too close together this time of year and unless you get there early, getting a park and a spot on the free part of the beach is really difficult. Next year I’ll come either in June or early July, or later, in September.

Tropea beach was amazing, very clean beach and sea

Plenty of choice along the coast line for sunbeds or stretch’s where you can just sunbath on your towel

There’s two routes to the beach that I found the one in the main tourist area is a hard slog getting back up

What a wonderful sea and coast. Long beach with white and thin sand and a crystal blue sea with different amazing shades.
