This place comes under two names - Villa Italia and Villa Vittoria, but it's the same building.
We loved the location - 2 min from the main street, 5 min to the sea.
However the room was a bit strange - it was narrow with a high ceiling and a glass staircase leading to a sleeping area arranged on a platform. Our heads were bumping against the ceiling everytime we stood up resulting in a concussion and a visit in a hospital...
We also found the reception ladies quite rude and constantly absent.
When we arrived at 2pm there was no one at the reception, so we found a cleaner who told us to wait...Same thing when we checked out and left the suitcases behind the reception area - anyone could walk in and take them as no one was at the reception when we sneaked in to pick them up.
On a positive note, the breakfast was great - the whole range from bread, eggs, ham cheese to fresh fruit, selection of juices and pastries. Plus it was served in a garden which we enjoyed a lot.
In general, a very good place to stay - just ask for a standard room with no platform bed.

I can without pause recommend the B&B Villa Italia. For us, staying in town, and walking down the steps to the beach each day, worked well. The hotel is just outside (two blocks) of the centro storico (old town), convenient to the train station. The rooms are spacious - with beautiful modern, new, clean, furnishings and fixtures. Large modern bath, huge windows, a mini fridge, good lighting, and excellent air conditioning. The breakfast is very relaxing and well stocked. The staff is extremely helpful in orientation, recommendations, and advice.

The food in Tropea is outstanding. Favorite Gelati (and we ate a ton) was Cafe del Corso. Favorite restaurants were: La Lamia - great food & service with a beautiful setting, Al Pinturicchio - fun, super food, nice setting, and Al Vecchio Forno for Pizza. But all the restaurants in town are good with nice food and nice servers including the beach clubs - and our favorite was definitely Lido Azzurro which was excellent all around.

A few notes - We had laundry done at the laundry at the end of the block of the street that B&B Villa Italia is on - Via della Vittoria - super job. We explored the possibility of a boat trip but there are not a lot of options - everyone sells the exact same trips and they are pricey, so we did not go. We went to Pizzo for the day and enjoyed our visit, but were glad we chose Tropea as we like organized beaches with chaises and umbrellas - which are not available in Pizzo, although the swimming was quite nice and we had a good lunch at Ristorante la Ruota which someone on tripadvisor had recommended to me and of course we tried and loved the Tartufo.

If you like a beautiful town with fantastic photo ops, great food, clear water to swim in, clean organized beaches, and friendly people - Choose Tropea. If you want a hotel which is an excellent value (we paid $790 euros for 8 nights, for three people, including breakfast) choose B&B Villa Italia. Email me any questions. Donna/Fritkis

Lovely, clean, bright room.
Nice garden area where an amazing breakfast is served - wide choice of food including pastries, fresh fruit, meats and cheeses.
Great location - 30 second walk from the main square and 5 minute walk into the centre of the old town.
Free parking right outside.
Friendly and helpful staff.

We found this hotel on the interenet. It is called a B&B, although the distinction is not clear. The staff are lovely and very helpful.
The rooms were very pleasantly decorated. A good mix of modern and classic.
The bathrooms were modern and the showers were excellent.
Breakfast was good and is served in the garden and consisted of lovely bread and a mix of cheeses and meats and pastries. Only problem here was that it could be cool sometimes and there were a lot of people who smoked, which is not pleasant during any meal, but particularly annoying over breakfast.
Lots of channels to choose from on the TV, as long as you were either Italian or German. Only BBC World or Sky News for english speakers.
Still, it's only a very short walk to the town and there are lots of good bars in the town square which is very close.
The hotel is linked to a beach club 'Oasi' and I would recommend spending some time there if the weather is good. The couple who run it are charming and the food is good, including great salads and fresh fish on the grill.
The hotel also offers a reduction for single occupancy, which is great for single travellers.
Beware of trying to take the train back to Lamezia on a Sunday, as they don't seem to run during the day.

Room Tip: rooms near reception can hear staff talking in am.

As a poet and a writer I search for the right inspiration; the history, an interesting anecdote, the scene, the place or the Bed & Breakfast. After two months in Italy I can easily say that my Grand Tour would not have been the same without Tropea, Villa Italia and the amazing staff.

Room Tip: Remember your camera :-)
