“Probably the finest small Renaissance church in Italy”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

Reputedly designed by Bramante, this is a beautiful Renaissance building. It took 100 years to finish, so the inside is Baroque, and less successful. (Brian Sewell described the interior as "ghastly", which is a bit harsh, I think). Fine modern organ.

“A trip into Todi's Baroque past!”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

This church is round and they hold a very impressive fireworks display in September for which the whole town turns out. Fireworks are fired from the church, in the valley beside the church and from a nearby government building. The show lasted 45 minutes and was easily the best I have ever seen....I come from the fireworks capital of America, Missouri. Inside the church the altar piece features an inset fresco and all twelve apostles surround the walls...it was fun to see if you could identify them all by their Italian names. It is a beautiful church more Spartan than most, but that may be a tribute to the lasting effects of St Francis' teachings. It is free and most surprising of all it is free Wi-Fi spot. It makes a great comparison with other churches in the area and defining the different styles churches took.

“Amazing baroque structure”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

This extraordinary church, which looks a bit like Oxford's Radcliffe Camera, sits outside the city walls. The inside is sparse and clean, apart from an incredible baroque alterpiece. There is also a very interesting self-standing modern organ - fascinating but despite its wonderful design, looks a bit out of place.
There is also a large statue of some former Pope, complete with silver toe-capped boot, for the faithful (foot-fetishists?) to kiss. Nauseating!

“A must in Todi”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

After the Priori square and the city center, Santa Maria della Consolazione is one of the most important attraction in Todi. This particular church is located just out of the city center, surrounded by a lovely landscape. The church is both pretty inside and outside. Particular in the form, style and architecture. A very nice place!

“Beautiful Church”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

We have seen many churches during our visit, but this is worth a special look. It is difficult to believe that such structures were built with crude tools.
