“Nice hotel, great location, warmly recommended”
Reviewed December 3, 2011

Great location, at the center of the town. Nice friendly boutique hotel, comfortable room, charming public areas, good breakfast. Helpful, welcoming staff. Warmly recommended.
The hotel has parking, but because of a festival, including open market, in the main roads and squares of town, that took place, the following day, we left the car at the open public parking yard, at the entrance to the city and reached the old town with a funicular (the funicular free of charge, the parking not), from the parking. It was very convenient too, but not recommended if you've got a lot of suitcases.

After visiting Gubbio for two nights, we took a taxi transfer (a whopping 130 euros!) to the Hotel Fonte Cesia in Todi. Originally booked to stay for two nights, when I had learnt that its sights are concentrated around the Piazza del Popolo, I cancelled the second night and spent it in Amelia instead - no regrets in doing so as I get to see another Umbrian hill town and Amelia is much closer to Rome, our last stop on this 10 day trip.

But hotel wise, the Hotel Fonte Cesia had beat our Palazzo Farrattini in Amelia hands down. It is rated a 4 stars and we thought it rightly so, it is by no means a good 4 stars. We did not give it a full 5 stars rating because there was no Wi-Fi in our junior suite, Venturini. These days, when most people travel with their Ipads and/or laptops, Wi-Fi is of utmost importance ...

Our recommended quiet suite, the Venturini, on the 1st floor with a huge terrace, is indeed quiet during the night for a good nights sleep. However, it overlooks the Hotel's ristorante as well as the cafe at the nearby Fonte Cesia (a famous fountain at the BACK of the Hotel Fonte Cesia), I am not too sure if the room would be that quiet in summer time.

As appeared on the pictures, our suite was indeed beautiful - panelled walls with matching wall paper, a poster comfy Queen bed, an antique fire place, a large LG flat screen TV, superb location and the best of all - its the only hotel that remembers my request for a stand fan to be placed in the suite - this is what I call Good Service!

The common areas of the Hotel are just as charming and quite beautiful - vaulted ceilings in the dinning/breakfast halls, hanging garden near the Ristorante, hidden chapel, 2 free computers for use near Reception, roof top terrace, big TV room with gigantic TV, good breakfasts but no scrambled eggs and bacon though, friendly and helpful staff etc

Now, the slight negatives - the suite's terrace being located on the 1st floor is not that private, if you stand further out to view the ristorante and quiet back street, guests from the nearby 2nd and 3rd floor can see you clearly! The outdoor furniture were all covered in a thick layer of dust, and I mean, THICK LAYER! Poor toiletries and there were no slippers to be seen, although there were two bathrobes which we did not use. The bathroom only has a standing shower and is small and weird in shape.

A walk around the other rooms had revealed some doubles, maybe deluxe rooms, also have small terraces. My favorite has to be rooms 301 and 302, with the latter being the better of the two. A few other rooms also have small balconies. Overall, we were very pleased with Todi and thought it a place that deserves more than one night, probably two nights.

While in Todi, we had both of our meals at the nearby Antica Hosteria de la Ville, a Michelin rated ristorante which serves great food at reasonable pricing. At the Hotel's front, there is a hidden mini mart for your water, wine and fruits, good pricing, too. Have a good stay at this solid 4 stars charming Hotel, but with no Wi-Fi though.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms 301 or 302, they come with terraces and are facing the Hotel's back, should be ver...

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our 2 week trip. The staff were helpful in having the car parked for us, which was great. Our room seemed a bit dated compared to some of the other hotels we stayed in, but the hotel was a good location for poking around Todi. The room was huge, which was nice. Front desk staff were helpful.

The hotel turns the air conditioning off at certain times, including some overnight hours so it made it warm for sleeping.

Arriving at Todi for a one-day-visit, we just happened to fall on this hotel .... and were extremely lucky !! Reception and service in these 24 hrs were just great, we had a wonderful room and an excellent breakfast in this old, perfectly renovated palazzio. The situation of the hotel in the middle of Todi could not be better (even a car park is available - not a minor detail in these old italien towns !) and the only thing we regret is that we didn't had dinner in the hotel but in a (quite bad) restaurant in town. We warmly recommend this hotel.

I actually stayed at this hotel in November of 2008, but the choice above was only listing the past year, however I am finally catching up on some of my previous hotel stays.

We were only there for 2 nights, as this was the first stop on a 7-day Tauck tour of Italy, mainly in Tuscany and Umbria. Tauck changed the itinerary for 2009, and did not use this hotel as part of their tour. November was magical in Tuscany, with the cool evenings creating a lovely mist of fog over the Tuscan countryside. The only problem was not being able to see the countryside in the evening or early morning.

The town of Todi was also magical, and a real community of locals. The hotel was charming and felt like it was family run. My room was cozy with old-world decor, but the shower was ridiculously small. I had to slip in sideways to get in the shower but it worked well otherwise. I actually like the quaintness of these authentic hotels, and the Fonte Cesia was just that. The dinner we had for our first night was delicious, but rather lengthy, as we were all tired having traveled and toured the entire day. We had dinner the following evening in a restaurant on the Piazza, but I am not sure of the name. It was fabulous, and the little Pizza place outside the entrance of the hotel was also very good for a little snack.

All in all, it was a lovely experience that I will not forget. If you want to really experience a small town in Tuscany stay in Todi at the Fonte Cesia!

My husband and I just returned from and Odesseys small group tour and Fonte Cesia was our base for 3 nights. We totally loved it. The room was simple but certainly very satisfactory and better than average for many on the continent. The people were very helpful and Lucia was particularly nice. Breakfasts were included and just fine altho perhaps not to people expecting a more "American" experience - to us, the buffet had lots to offer. We had dinner one night in the hotel and ate out other nights. There are many charming spots to sit and relax, both in and out. As in most of Italy, showers were small, especially for my big husband, not that was typical throughout Italy. Everything was clean. Todi is a very charming town and great base for daytrips. The hotel itself has great history dating back to Roman times and is included in the local tour of the town. I would definitely plan to return again.

We stayed for 2 nights at the start of our Italian holiday. The hotel is in an excellent position right in the heart of Todi.- perfect for sightseeing and wandering along to the evening concerts in the square. Our room was small but having chosen the lowest priced accommodation it was perfectly adequate and the air conditioning made it comfortable at night. The car parking provided was a bonus and a staff member kindly took our car away for us after unloading our luggage. Breakfast was good with plenty choice and the staff spoke reasonable english and were very pleasant.
