I really enjoyed staying at the Hotel Villagio primarily because of the location of my room. My room faced out onto the expanse of ocean, looking down from my balcony I could see the translucent water crashing against block volcanic rocks. I loved the sound of the ocean that would lull me off to sleep at night, this was often intercepted by the thunder of the erupting volcano. The rooms were very basic, but as I didnt spend any time in the room it didn't impact my trip at all. The room was very clean and cleaned daily. Outside the room are tables and chairs and a washing line. I actually really liked the holiday home feel to it with everyones towels and bathing suits drying in the afternoon. The only draw back to the rooms are noise, take earplugs if you don't want to hear other people. This worked for me. The room fridge was not working, get this checked out early as I discovered it should have been functional and this would have been handy.
Food wise there is a separate restaurant with-in the hotel but not part of the hotel. The staff are fantastic and the food is good. They will whip you up a morning omelette on request or whatever you desire. The hotel restaurant I would give miss, the food is ok but I felt by eating here I was missing all the great food to be had in the village. The continental breakfast was average, the coffee was not great. For lunch there is a fantastic wine bar just near the hotel called Pardes, they have a limited local produce menu, the salads and fresh juices were fantastic!
For internet the Wifi in the hotel is chargeable and only available in reception. Pardes do Wifi for free.
The hotel has it's own private beach with a great resource for hiring umbrellas, kayaks, chairs you name it. There are lots of rocky nooks and crannies to relax if you want to explore and get away from the crowds on the sandy beach. Take Snorkeling equipment with you and waterproof shoes designed to protect feed from rocks. I just tried to imagine it was reflexology every time I ouch, ouch ouched into the water.
The roof terrace is a lovely area particularly as the sun is setting, take a moment to sit up there and take in the golden light of the setting sun. Or in the evening it is great to sit up there and marvel at the amount of stars you can see in the sky at night.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Villagio and would return, its a great set up which enhances your Strombolli experience.
Remember to book the hotel pick up service from the Ferry, it's too far to drag bags.

Room Tip: Have a room overlooking the ocean.

With its position right on the basalt cliff top overlooking its own black sand beach, the hotel could not be better located for a sunny morning breakfast on the terrace. The simply furnished, but perfectly adequate rooms straddle the typically narrow alley way on which the hotel is located, around 15 minutes walk from both the port and the village centre. The hotel was used as a base for the crew of the Rossellini film "Stromboli" and photos adorn the walls. It caters equally well for couples, families and groups wishing to use it as a base for venturing to the volcanic viewpoints around one hour's walk along the coast, or to taking a guided tour to the summit. The family owners provide a cheerful welcome and a relaxed style of service. Having now brought student groups to the island for ten years, following an intial holiday, I would recommend the hotel as ideal for coping with, and tolerating, their needs and requirements.

We went to Stromboli to see the volcano and enjoy the black sand beaches. This small hotel's terraced rooms are seafront with lovely shaded balconies where you can relax. The rooms were clean and adequate. They have a lovely morning continental breakfast - you can even bring your breakfast back to your room/terrace to eat in privacy if you wish. The walk to "town" is easy although be warned that there is not alot to do there.

The "beach" in front of the hotel is rocky - rounded lava rocks. There is a black sandy beach just down the road. The water - warm and crystal clear.

Wish I was still there.

Room Tip: Bring your flashlight. There is limited lighting on this isolated island.

We recently stayed at the Hotel Villaggio Stromboli for 1 night. Whilst this hotel has enormous potential - breathtakingly spectacular views and absolute beach frontage, a few aspects of our stay left our opinion of the hotel somewhat diminished.

Rooms were small and basic but clean and comfortable and, whilst we thought very expensive (140 euros/night) in comparison with equivalent level accommodation elsewhere is Sicily, we were broadly happy to pay the extra given the wonderful position of our room, perched atop a cliff with direct and unobstructed views to Strombolicchio.

The room had an air conditioning unit but no remote was provided and we later understood use of the air conditioning involved an additional cost. Clarify this when booking as we were not aware and had assumed air-con would be included. The room was extremely hot and to be completely comfortable air con would be required as room design and aspect doesn't necessarily lend itself to promoting natural air movement. Accordingly it would be useful if these costs could be reflected in advertised room rates upfront.

The hotel is in a great location but a distance from the port and town centre, which could be reached in an easy and pleasant 10 minute walk, but requires transport for luggage. After being collected by Ape (tiny Italian open-air 3 wheel ute) from the Port free on arrival guests should be aware the hotel charges 12 Euros for the 1 - 2km Ape ride back to the Port on departure. Given the already high cost of the room, the additional charges for air-con and the fact the hotel was apparently making the trip regardless to collect new arrivals we were personally surprised by what we considered a high cost for a 3 - 5 minute ride on the back of what was effectively a modified open-air ute. In isolation - no biggie.

Service at the hotel was average and not particularly proactive or guest oriented but we were broadly okay with this as the spectacular location of our room made it easier to overlook. With some gentle urging reception staff booked a Stromboli by Night type boat trip for us (hotel recommended Pippo Navigation - and our experience with Pippo was great & reasonably priced). The hotel cafe was of a reasonable standard, prices okay, serving typical Italian fare and had friendly staff. Breakfast was average but fine.

Overall - our experience was somewhat marred by a few surprise costs - but we were very pleased with the location and the position - which were one of many highlights of our trip to the Aeolians. Expect however, the room standard to not be equivalent to rooms elsewhere in Sicily in the same price range - I guess to be expected given the relatively isolated nature and popularity of Stromboli.

it seems that the owners have decided that the hotel is not anymore so important for them. Their core business is now the disco.
So this is the choice if you want to enjoy disco music until 3 am and then the noisy gathering of people that want to continue to enjoy the night inside the hotel.
If you are so dull to pretend to sleep for just 250 EUR per night then you should loom for something else.
Of course, if this hotel is your choice you would not care about the obsolence of the rooms and of the facilities.

We had a family of 13 travelling together and needed 5 rooms. This place was the perfect fit. It is made up of a series of rooms around small courtyards with the main buiding in the middle. We had 3 rooms in one area and 2 in the other. This allowed us to all sit together at night while having a drink and playing games on our small decks.
The hotel has a restaurant overlooking the water for supper and lunch and another restaurant for breakfast (which is included) that has AC or you can eat on the balcony again with water views. The hotel also has a TV room so you can watch your own movies in comfort and there is a large comfy roof top deck.
It is a quick walk to all the shops and restaurants.
The beach is just down the stairs. Chairs and umbrellas can be rented for 10ER each for the day. Just make sure to bring your own beach towel.
The rooms are basic but comfortable. There is no TV or AC but you do have a fan and a small fridge.
Would highly recommend this hotel.

The setting, just above the sea and looking out towards the lighthouse on Strombolicchio, is simply stunning. The room itself looked beautiful with antique furniture and en suite shower room. Outside was a patio area with table and chairs. Unfortunately, there was not tea or coffee facilties in the room.

Unfortunately, facilities at the hotel were rather lacking and again I support the previous reviewer's comment "B&B quality at hotel prices". The hotel is someway out from the main town - a positive benefit until you are told that the bar is closed. Not even someone with the key to a chiller cabinet! Similarly, the restaurant was not open. We were told that this was because it was out of season (mid-April). There was a fridge in the room and so we put bottles in there - good job I had a bottle opener. The reception desk was closed for much of the day but when it was open, the staff were friendly and helpful.

Breakfast was simple but good with cereal, bread and croissant. Unfortunately, the coffee was from a self-service machine and was really rather unpleasant (despite the fact that there were several staff and a proper coffee maker in the room).

We very much felt that we were given our room and then abandonned. Toward the end of our stay, some other guests arrived (I think we were the only guests at first) and a lounge room was opened up. Perhaps during busier times, there is a little more atmosphere, better service and a bar.

Stunning place - but a bit more effort required, I feel, to earn their money.

Room Tip: Pay and get the Piaggio transfer from the port
